The Cardno block, which for

Alex. Cardno, ,one of Seaforth's
pioneer businessrirn.

The same report went on to say
that the hall was opened by a
series of entertainments the first
of which featured, "a Christening
performance which consisted of

and the floor of the stage with
sparkling champagne". When he
had finished• perhirrning this1
'duty, Mayor Coleman, after
making a ''few appropriate
preliminary remarks" named the
hall 'Cardno„..Music Hall'.
The complete block cost
$30,000.00-"atid when. first built
'was lighted by gas manufactured
on the premises.. The clock in the
high tower was imported from,
Boston at a cost of $1,000.00 and
it cost an additional $1,000 :00 to
have it installed;

Seaforth's'ist Electric Dynamo was bought by the
town in 1889. The Scott brothers formedlIhe Seaforth
Electrictight Company in 1894 and by January 1895
Seforth had its first reliable power Source.
Incandescent lights numbering 800 and 75 arc lights
turned night into day..
In August 1910 the town citizens voted 370 to .42
for Public Hydro which was turned on December 1,
1911. Seaferth's P.U.C. was formed later in the same
year with D. J. McCallum as'chairman. The P.U.C.
has taken pride for 64 years in providing Seaforth
with the best service available.
