YORK LIONS' STE EL BAND — The York Lions' Steel Band, the largest steel band
outside of the Caribbean, will be a highlight of Seaforth's Centennial Parade and
will play after the parade at the arena. Since the band was formed in April 1972, it
has thrilled thousands of spectators, both in Metro and other parts of the Province
of Ontario. Steel band experts from Trinidad have been surprised and impressed by
their performance. The band has thirty teenage members, boys and girls, mainly
from the Borough of York. Their repertoire includes traditional Caribbean music
such as "Yellow Bird", "Jamaican Farewell" to "Mary Ann" as well as long time
favourites and popular tunes. In November 1973 the bandzappeared in the Grey Cup
Parade which was televised from coast to coast.
