Baker Public Relations Officer Branch 156 An article written by Richard Gooding of the London Free Press, states that an association of armed forces pensioners wanted a broadened definition of the word "veteran." The official government defini- tion of the word "veteran" is someone who has served in a war zone, this does not apply to those serving, or who have served with the United Nations peacekeeping forces, and they are not eligible for war veterans allowances or the' replacement legislation for the Local Briefs Mrs. Clarence Walden enter- tained' a number of_friends and neighbours at her home Wednes- day evening, April 9th in honour of Mrs. Helen Ross who will soon be leaving Seafcrth to make her home in Kitchener. The CFLSPA wants the defini- tion of the word veteran to mean, "A Canadian Armed Forces veteran, is one who while serving with the Canadian Armed Forces, served in an officially designated War Zone, or has served a minimum of 10 years with the regular forces, or while with the regular forces has served with UN or NATO forces." If they can get the government to change the definition, they will be entitled to all veteran's benefits. In my opinion this is a good subject for the Royal Canadian Legion, for the members are made up of war veterans and ex-servicemen who have served with the regular forces in peace- tirne.
