DONALD STEWART CURRIE
Donald Stewart Currie of
Brampton,, died after a brief
illness at Princess Margaret
Hospital, Toronto on Thursday,
April 3, 1975.
He was born in Morris
Township, the son of the late.Mr.
and Mrs. Russel Currie, His
residence was Brussels until 1961
when he moved to Brampton,
Ontario.
Predeceased by his wife, the
former Janet McLean, he is
survived by three sons, Barry of
London, John of Orangeville and
Douglas of Brampton. He is also
survived by a sister Mrs. Allan
(Betty) McCall of Walton and
,three grandchildren, Cheryl and
Rhonda of Orangeville, and Jamie
of Brampton.
The body rested at the
M. L. Watts Funeral Home,
Brussels, until Monday, April 7
'when funeral services conducted
by Rev. Le Drew were held at 1:30
p.m.
Temporary entombment was in
Brussels Cemetery Chapel with
burial later at Brussels Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Tom Pletch,
Tom G arniss, Jack Lowe, Joe
Brewer, Bill Stephenson and Al
Logan. The Weyer bearers were
Ross Duncan and Graham Work.

Mrs. Allan McCall
The April meeting of the
Walton U.C.W, Unit was held on
Wednesday evening at the home
of Mrs. Herb Traviss with 24
members present.
Mrs. Nelson Reid opened the
meeting with a poem folloWed by
hymn, "In the Cross of Christ I
Glory" with Mrs. Herb Traviss at
the organ. The story of Jesus
appearing to his Disciples was
read and hymn, "The Day of
Resurrection" was sung.
Meditation, "Where seek ye the
Christ" was read. Hymn, "Jesus
Christ is risen to-day" was
followed with prayer by Mrs. H.
Traviss.
Mrs. Stewart Humphries gave
the topic "Praise Ye the Lord in
Song". Hymns take a special
place in our devotions. Authors
and writers of hymns were spoken
of and some of the hymns were
mentioned.
Suggestions, for enjoyment of
singing hymns were summed up
(1) Sing all hymns, (2) Join with
congregation as frequently as you
can, (3) Let n of weakness or
weariness hinder you, (4) Sing
lustily and with a good courage,
(5) Above all sing spiritually.
Have an eye to God in every
word you sing. Aim ,at pleasing
Him more than yourself so shall
your singing be such as the Lord
will approve of.
The rest of the meeting was
taken over by the President, Mrs.
Wm. Thamer, she thanked the
different members who had taken
part. The minutes were read by
Mrs. Howard Hackwell, followed
by the roll call. The next meeting
will be held at the home of Mrs.
Murray Smith.
In the business, anyone that
would like to subscribe for the
Upper Room should call Mrs,
Torrence Dundas. Names of
people wanting Centennial
• spoons and gins were taken.
It was, announced that the 8th
and 16th unit will hold their ham
supper on May 4th in the church
basement.
Mrs: Don Achilles, Mrs. Frank
Kirk and Mrs. Dave Collins are
to do the collecting for a shower
on Saturday evening:
Mrs. Herb' Traviss spoke about
the Centennial Book when
• pictures of the congregation are
to be taken. In charge are Mrs:

as helper. Mrs. Ralph Traviss and

a meeting Monday to look after
the planning.
The Anniversary Committee
are seeking pictures for a
Centennial display which are to
be given to Mrs. Allan Searle or
Mrs. Nelson Reid.
Lunch was served by Mrs.
NeEson Marks, Mrs. Arthur
Heard and' Mre. Frank Kirkby.
The U.C.W. Easter
Thankoffering
The United Church Women
held their Easter Thankoffering
service at Duff's United Chttrch,
Walton on Sunday evening with a
large attendance; with, visiting
churches from Brussels,Blyth,
Seaforth, Winthrop and Belgrave.
The ushers were Mrs. Cliff
Ritchie and Mrs: Ken McDonald.
Mrs. Neil Mccavin • the
U.C.W. President, opened with
the Call to Worship, "Easter is a
Festival". Hymn, "Praise the
Lord Ye Heavens Adore Him"
was sung .a ompanied by the
organist s. Ian Wilbee. Mrs,
Don A les assisted Mrs. Neil
McGav n in a candlelighting
servic commemorating the
Easter season. Hymn, "The Day
of Resurrection" was followed by
a selection by the BelgraveMen's
Choir led by Rev. J. Roberts.
The offering was received by
Mrs. Alvin McDonald, Mts.Wm.
Thamer, Mrs. Martin Baan and
Mrs. Murray Smith and
dedicated by Mrs. Neil McGavin,
followed by prayer and a welcome
to all that had turned out, and
especially to the Men's Choir.
Rev. Docken welcomed Rev.
John, Roberts of Belgrave who
again directed the choir when
they sang. Praise ,the Lord.
Rev. Roberts /spoke on the
"Message of Easter" he was
thanked by Mrs. W. Bewley.
McKillop Unit
The McKillop. Unit of • the
U.C.W. of Duff's Church, Walton
met last Wednesday evening at
the home of Misses Ethel and
Tennie Dennis, Seaforth with 13
members and 3 visitors present.
Mrs. C. Wey opened the
devotions with the "Call to
Worship", hymn "As Cpmes the
Breath of Spring" was sung
followed b§" prayer. Mrs. M.
Hackwell read the 23rd Psalm. (
The scripture was taken from
John 20: 1.18 and was read by
Mrs. D. Watson. Mrs. C. Wey
gave the meditation.
Mrs. J. Burch gave the topic on
Nellie McClung in the form of a
skit. Those taking part were Mrs.
MsWackwell, Mrs. D. Watson,
MiVM. Dennis, Mrs. D. Dennis,
Mrs. C. Wey and Mrs. J. Burch.
Mrs. C. Wey read a reading "God
Speaks to Women Today".
Hymn "Women of God, Arise"
was sung. Offering was taken by
Mrs. M. Hackwell. Mrs. C. Wey
read a reading "Prayer in a Jet
Age" closing this part of the
meeting, with prayer.
Mrs, K. Dennis presided for
the business period. Minutes of
the last meeting were read by
Mrs. 0. McNichol. Rell call was
answered by everyone's opinion
on "How Can 'a Parent Best
Co-operate with Teachers".
Treasurer's report was given by
Mrs. M. Hackwell, Mrs. M.
Dennis closed the meeting with
prayer.
A delicious lunch was served by
Mrs. S. McCall, Mrs. Schade,
Mrs. Walker and the hosteses
Ethel and Tennie Dennis.
Personals
Mr. and Mrs. Doug. Fraser
,,,,have received word from Carelln
and Gerald Sullivan where he wen
the Commonwealth Scholarship
and `attended a luncheon at the
British Council Headquarters
where he was introduced to the
Queen. They also telephoned her
parents, a week ago Sunday from
London. England where they are
presently residing.
Mrs. Don McDonald is a
patient in the Stratford General
Hospital, we wish her a speedy
recovery.
Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Ritchie
and Allison of Zaelandia, Sask.
have been visiting with Mr. and
Mrs. Jim McDonald, the
McDonald family. and Mr. and
Mrs. Murray Huether.
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Krautcr of
Dwight, Ontario and Mr. and
Mrs. Russell Kreuter of Atwood
also visited at the Jim McDonald
home.
The Institute euchre is
scheduled for this Friday evening
due to the storm the euchre two
weeks ago was cancelled. Plans
will be made at the annual
meeting this Wednesday evening
for Dessert Euchre April 28th.
Week end guests with Mr. and
Mrs. Clifford Ritchie were: Mr.
and Mrs. Don Krick , Hamilton
and Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Ritchie
of Hamilton. They all attended
the Belmore Maple Syrup
Festival on Saturday.
Mr., and Mrs..Charlie Ritchie
and Allison of Zael4ndie, Sask.,'
also spent a few days recently at
the home of Cliff and IvIrs.ritchie.
Mrs. Martha Sholdice of
Huronview, Clinton, visited on
the weekend with the Sholdice
and Nvilbee family and attended
the Thankoffering service Sunday
evening at Duff's United Church.
Mr.' and Mrs.David Brady and
baby daughter have moved to
Hagersville. They spent the week
end 'at ,the W.J.Leerning home,
and visited Mrs. Leeming who is
a patient in the Seaforth
Community Hospital.

MRS. ELI RAPIEN
Mrs. Eli Rapien, formerly of
McKillop Township and Brod-
hagen passed away on Thursday
'at the, Milverton Nursing Home
' where she had been a resident for
▪ the past ten years. She was the
former Wilhelmiret Hemme and
was born in McKillop Township
on May 9, 1878, a daughter of the
late August Hemme and the
former Elizabeth Schaffer.
On November 12, 1901 she was
married to Eli Rapien who resides
at the Milverton Nursing Home in
Milverton. They had farmed in
McKillop Township retiring to
4 Brodhagen in 1936. She was a
member of St. Peter's Lutheran
Church in grodhagen and an
honourary member of the
Lutheran Church Women.
Surviving besides her husband
is one son Clarence, two daugh-
ters: Dora, Mrs. Edwin Gloor of
Logan Township and Lauretta,
Mrs. Norman Wolfe of Milverton.
' Also surviving are 13 grand-
* children, 23 great grandchildren
and 2 great, great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by one son
Norman in infancy and one
daughter Hazel, Mrs. Norman
Hoffmeyer in 1970, She was the
last surviving member of her
immediate family having been
predeceased by 2 brothers and 7
sisters.
The late Mrs. Rapien rested at
the Lockhart Funeral Home in
Mitchell until noon on Sunday
when removal was made to St.
Peter's Lutheran Church for the
funeral service and committal
service at 2:30 with the Rev.
Arthur Horst officiating. Mrs.
Arthur Horst was at the organ
and three favorite hymns of the
deceased were sung.
Pallbearers were grandchildren
Lloyd, Ralp h and Irvine Gloor,
John Hoffmeyer, Keith and Roy
Wolfe. Friends attended, from
Milverton, New Hamburg,
Kitchener, Waterloo, Varna,
Zurich, London, Elmira, Seaforth,
Walton, Mitchell, Brodhagen and
surrounding area.
Internment will be made in St.
Peter's Lutheran Cemetery,
is Brodhagen at a later date.
Expressions of sympathy were
shown through floral tributes and
memorials to the Ritz Lutheran
