The U.C.W. met Tuesday

United Church. Mrs.' pearl 'Eyre
and Mrs.Greg McCiregor were in
charge of the devotionat. Mrs.
McGregor opened the • meeting
with a poem.
Hymn "There is a Green Hill
far away" was sung with Mrs.
Pearl McBeath at the piano.
The Scripture was Luke 23rd
chapter. followed by Hymn
"When I survey .the wondrous
Crossz' and prayer. The
offering' was • received and
dedicated. The meditation was by
Mrs. Eyre. "All in an April
Evening". Hymil "Beneath the
Cross of Jesus'; Was sung and
praye'r.
The business was chaired by
the President, Mrs Triebner. She
welcomed everyone with prayer.
The secretary's report was
given , by Mrs. cliff Henderson
and the treasurer's report by
Mrs. John Henderson, Mrs.
Wilson read a letter from our
foster child.
Baby clothes are to be donated
,in March. Cards of thanks front
Mrs. Dutton and Mrs. Snelling
were received.
World's Day of Prayer was
Friday evening • at Kippen
Church.
Thankoffering will' be April 1st
in the evening.
Mrs. Triebner closed the
meeting with all repeating the
benediction. Mrs. John Taylor
and Mrs.Robert Walters served
lunch.

A lovely shower arranged by
Mrs. Jim Cronin (Hibbert) and
Mrs. Dave Regler was held on
Sunday for Miss Nancy Ott of
Listovvel. an April bride, Con-
tests were, enjoyed after which the
bride elect was sent on a treasure
hunt for gifts which were useful
and beautiful. Nancy thanked
those present for the gifts after
which a dainty lunch was served.

aids the students in making wise

Road vouchers of $5,853.59

• Fred Harburn was given the
contract for spraying weeds •on
roads at $5.50 per mile both Sides
of road, with the township
supplying spray powder, 'and for
Warble Fly Spraying at '30 cents
per head with . Mt. Harburn 'to'
supply his own powder and help.
Bt laws were passed permitting
the township to erect ''Stop" and
"Yield" signs in the' township in
accordance with Ministry of'
Transport and Communications
'recommendations, and for the
Police Village of Dublin to•collecf
and dispose of garbage, with
William Eisler .being the contrac-
tor and each householder to be
assessed $29.00 per year.
The • operating budget of the
Mitchell and District Arena and
Communities Centres board was
studied and their request for an
interim payment of $19,000 was
approved. 'After muck discussion ,t
on the capital costs bUdget of
$21,000, it was recommended
that this be trimmed by $15,000
leaving a balance of $6,000. The
clerk was directed to inform the .,
board accordingly.
Mrs. Joe Thornton is back in
the hospital.
Word has been received of the
death of Mrs. W.H.Summerell,
wife of the late Rev. •
W. H. Sutrimerell, Minister of the
McKillop charge'of Cavan, Bethel
and Duff 'from 1957 - 1961. Mrs.
Summerell died in Orillia
Hospital on Feb. 22, 1975 and was
buried in the family plot in
Hanover Cemetery.

Mrs, Mary McIver
The March meeting of the
Catholic Women's League was
held in the church hall. Father
Ostveen opened the meeting with
pfayer. Mrs. Francis Hicknell
presided. Minutes were read by
Mrs. Leon Maloney. Mrs.
Clarence Ryan mid the corres-
pondence. The treasurer's report
was given by Mrs. Theo Van
Bakel. There are 82 members
and one honourary member. The
altars were cared for in December
.by Mrs. Roy Swart and girls; in
January by Mrs. Theo Van Bakel
and girls; in February by Mrs.
Jack Lithe and in March by Mrs.
William Albert and girls. Mrs.
John O'Leary will visit the sick.
An invitation was read to attend
the World Day of Ptayer in Dublin ,
on. March '7. It was decided the
League 'Would visit the residents
of Killiarclian on March 19.,

A farewell party was held on
Saturday, March 1st at the home
of Reeve and Mrs. Ross McPhail,
Hibbert Township. to honour the
retirement from Hibbert Council
of John Drake.
Mr. Drake had served
continuously on the Hibbert
Council since 1961 to the end of
1974, On referring to his career
on Council, Reeve Ross McPhail
reminisced about the yeArs
served together, of some of the
awkward things,-of funny things,
and of times when they did not
agree. but always managed to get
along.
Deputy Reeve Henry Harburn
presented John and Marge Drake
with a suitable gift, and both
thanked their friends.
An enjoyable evening was
spent playing progressive euchre
with Mrs. Bruce Armstrong
winning top ladle's and Twyla
Diehl the boobie' prize. In the
men's section, Ross Smale was ,
high and -Torn Scott low. Mr.
Scott also won the travelling lone
hand prize.
Mrs.E,d., Rowland is a patient in
Stratford General •Hospital. We
wish her a• speedy recovery.
Mr. •and Mrs. Leonard
Morrison. Leonard Jr. and
Baitb—a-ra-pf Kinkora visited on the
weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Peter
'Maloney.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kistner
have returned from their holiday
in Florida.

Mrs.Dan Costello and family in
the death of Dan Costello a well
known and highly respected
citizen of this community.
Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Maloney
'visited on Sunday with M. and
grs. Harold Maloney in Seaforth.
. Mr. and Mrs.Clayton Looby
returned home on Saturday from
a holiday in Hawaii.
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Cronin have
returned home from a two week
vacation in- Florida •

visiting friends this past week in
Dublin.,
Mr. D.J.MacRae , chairman of
Dublin 'Hydro and Commissioner
Matt McCreight attended the
66th Annual meeting of the
Ontario Municipal Electric
Association and Association of
Municipal Electrical Utilities at
the Royal York Hotel in Toronto
during the past week,
representing the Police Village of
Dublin. They were saddened to
hear of the death of Daniel
Costello.
The O.M.E.A. expressed their
sympathy to Mrs. Costello and
family remembering that-Mr. D.
. Costello had served faithfully for
Dublin Hydro for over 20 years at
these meetings.
The elective program which has
just been completed at the school
consisted of groups cooking,
wood working, electrical repairs,
knitting and crocheting and
wrestling.
The, 'tender of W.G. Kelly
Construction for the building of a
bridge , on concession 1/2, Lot
20/21 was accepted when Hibbert
Council met March 3. The bridge
will cc 't $50,905.00 and Gilbert
Steel , will supply steel for
$5.912.37. The new bridge will
he located some 150 feet south of
the ,present structure, and there
will' be a• stream diversion.
Gravel tenders were given to
Ray Ireland Construction for
crushing and delivering gravel to
the township roads at $1.37 per
yard and for stockpiling at $1.27
'per yard. The township is to
supply gravel. The contractor will
howevel% be supplying,- crushing
and delivering gravel to farmers'
lanes at $1.90 per yard.
During the letting of the Bridge
Tenders, Reeve Ross McPhail
permitted Councillor Herb Brown
to withdraw, to prevent any
conflict of interests arising as
Councillor Brown is an employee
-Of one of the tendering construc-
tion companies.
Simon De Wit spoke on stream
divergence on his property, and
the filling of existing stream beds
with, fill after the construction of
the new bridge: Council thanked
Mr. De Wit for his co-operation
and promised their full support to
ensure the minimum of damage
to properties.
