'• A pair of rouging upsets were
# made last Sunday night in the
• opening games L of ,the H.L.
playoff -
The. Kings , went two. overtime
periods to upset the Stars 5 -'4 in
the "early" game. The second
game saw the Blues end a.5 game
. winless at the right time and whip
the Flyers by a tune of 5-3.
The St ars opened the scoring
at 1:07 of the first period on a goal
by Joe Dick at 9:16, Bill Price
upped the' ount to 2-0 and the
Stars were apparently on their
\way. •
At 13:06, however, Jim Watson
scored for the Kings and the first ,
' period ended 2 :" 1 Stars.
The St ars continued. to press
but Bill Price suffered a cut near
his eye and he. was forced to
_leave the game:slew-a-number of .
'minutes. This forced a•shakeup in
the Stars lineup and the Kings
found some holes, and responded
by scoring two goals. Bob Watson
and JaceBaker connected and the
Kings pulled ahead'3 - 2,aft er two
periods of play.
14 Shots
In the 3rd. period,' with Price
=back, the Stars fired 14 shots at
Jerry Cooper.and broke into a 4 -3
lead. with Bill Boshart and Khan

teams headed for 'overtime.-
:The first overtime saw the Stars
Outshoot the Kings 7 -.2 but the 10
minute period ended scoreless.
Jerry Cooper came up with a -
pair of game saving saves off the
sticks of Bill Price and Kevan
Broome.
Cooper was again of his best
.and frestrated the 'Stars' shooters
repeatedly.

dither team taking any chances.

n shots on, net but the Kings
vade their shots count and goalie
Zooper stopped the Stars cold.
In the late game the Blues
'oared back from a 3-2 deficit with
3, 3rd period goals to upset the.
Flyers 5 - 3, Blues' goalie Gary
Osborne was,in top form and with
the help of his goal posts stymied
the Flyers shooters: The Flyers
led .2 - 1 after the first period and
3-2 after the second stanza.
Scored Twice •
Jim Finlayson scored twice
with Doug O'Reilly, Ken Burgess
and Bill Pinder rounding out the
Blu es scoring.
Brian Leonhardt, Jack
'Grooth his and Steve Ekert replied
for. the -Flyers. '
The Blues were determined to
win while the Flyers provided
only a slight semblance of any.
desire -at all. ,
The Flyers pressed early and
changed 3 shots off the goal
posts. Most of their pressure was
sustained hut Osborne,and erratic
shooting proved their downfall,'
The Blues line of Muir,
Finlayson and Pinder owned the ••
ice and if not for some erratic -
shooting of their_ own' the score
could have been higher:
As .stands now the under
dogs have. suddenly become the
favourites. Beth the Stars . and
Flyers will have to score early and
