(By Dave Broome)
The. 1974.75 I.H.L. season
came to an end semetime
between last Sunday and Monday
nights. The games ' ended on
Sunday night of course and n all
, apparent reaseris thp
pairings were set along with the
Flyers being crowned league
champions for finishing first.
The Flyers were to meet, the
kings and the Stars and Blues'
would face each other in next
Sunday's playoff openers.
The Flyers enjoyed a,
celebration of ter teaming of
their apparent title win but alas
the happy occasion was, as it
turned out, slightly premature.
• The Stars and Flyers ended the
season tied with 17 points apiece.
To break the tie it was assumed a
result could only be reached by a
comparison of the two to ams
during the season. As it turned
out the Flyers had won the series
against the Stars by a 3 - 1 - I
count.
Perhaps the Flyers, had decided
this was the best solution
although no one elsecseemed to
know about it.
However, late Monday night
(slightly clandestine) a decision
was reached that the Stars should,
take the title based on their 8 wins
a gainst the Flyers 7 victories.
From all reports this decision
was agreed upon by most -
definitely not all - just' most of
those involved.
As a result the Stars will meet
the Kings next Sunday at 7:30
while the Flyers and BIU'es will
face-off at apprOstimately 9:00.
There will be two twenty minute
straight time periods with the last
period being a twenty minute stop
time affairs:

elbows, hooks and interference
calls. There were only 3 fighting
incidents and only one, serius
stick-swinging episode. There
were no serious injuries due to
penaltiekan0, in general, the play
was good.,
In the first series the Kings and
Stars meet. The Stars Could be
called the early favourite
becayse of finishing first. The
Kings are quite capable of pulling
an upset however and it should be
a good series.
The Flyers are' favoured over
the Blues but the I.H.L. playoffs
always seem to favour the laSt
place team. The Blues are
capable of winning and it will be a
good series also: •
In closing, I 'Dave Broome.,
reserve all rights to take blame
for any errors I have made in
keeping the statisticsthis,season.
I hope all facts and figures are
accurate and true in a line with a
policy of complete h onesty .
I hope no one will feel 'upset if
they see that their point totals
may not be correct.
The "games played" column
may have a number of errors but
the other statistics are, I hope,
accurate. •

The Flyers markesmen were
Perry Brooine with a pair and Ben
Akker. John Watt; GregRau and
Ken Burgess connected for the
Blues.
The Flyers bombarded Blues
goalie Gary Osborne continually
but Osborne closed the door
repeatedly. he stopped a pair of
breakaways 'by Brian Leonhardt
and kicked out point blank drives
off the sticks of 'Ben Akker, `Bob
Montgomery and Dave Broome.
Osborne easily faces the most
shots of all the goalies and if a
goals, per shot ratio were available
he 'would be the leader by a
country mile.
Awards
Individual awards. were also
won Sunday night while others
excelled in certain categories.
Bill Price held' off a strong
challenge by teammate Dale
Kennedy 'to win /he scoring
crown. Price, who plays for the
Stars, collected 15 goals and 12
assists for 27 points.
Kennedy finished with 12 goals
and 14 assists' and fell just one
point shy.
Gary Montgomery, also a Star,
came away with the goaltending
crown for the second straight
year. He allowed 49 goals in 15
games for a 3.26 average. - ,
Rick Fortune finished second to
Montgomery with a 3.73 average.
Gerry Feeny of the Kings led
all goal scorers with 17. It's

and the result was an obvious
plus for;tlKings
Dave Broome of the Flyers led
in the assist department with 16
while Dalei Kennedy was second
with 14. Bill Price was second in
goal scoring with 15.
Ron Hildebrand had the
dubious distinction or being the
penalty "King" with 110 minutes
in the ''"ice Box". •
Success
The season ends on what could
be' calleda successful note-„The
teams were evenly matched as
the standings will bear out. Also
the play was not as rough or
"hacky" as in past years. Most of
the penalties were of the minor
type with over 100 tripping
penalties and an assoitment of

McClure played an outstanding
game.
On Sunday, the second game
Beavers defeated by Port Elgin
closely. The Seaforth Club looked

played short handed. The Port
Elgin team scored 3 goals before
Bill McLaughlin scored his 4th
goal of the game, thus giving the
Port Elgin Club a 10 to 6 victory
and the 1st game in a best of 7
series. •
The Beavers were missing
Gord Glen a hard hitting defence'
as Gord injured his ankle in a
previous game. It is hoped gord
will be back soon.
The Beavers came up' with a
very good game, as Al Carter robb
