At about two o'clock the senior
starated their competition. The
seniors take in ,all those from
grades 11, 12 and '13. The
competitors were Joanne Bode,
Don Melady, Sandra Hulley,
Margaret Shortreed and Linda
Smith. The winners were .Don
Melady, first and Joanne Bode,
second.
At the end of the speeches. Mr
Shaw and Mr. Hansen gave
reasons, and pointed out faults
that influenced their judging. '
Everyone spoke well and the
audience enjoyed the
performance.

roast or for any poultry dish.
Scalloped carrots and Apples
3 cups' sliced carrot
2 cups sliced peeled apple
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
4 cup butter
2 Tablespoons buttered soft bred
crumbs bread
Arrange 11/2 cups carrot in
baking dish. Cover with 1 cup
apple. Sprinkle with half the.
sugar -and seasonings. Dot with
half the butter. Repeat layers.
Cover and bake at 350°F until
almost tender (40 to 45 minutes).
Uncover. sprinkle with crumbs
and continue baking until crumbs
are lightly browned (about 10
-Minutes more) . 6 servings.
NOTE:Leftover cooked carrots
may be used "in this recipe but

planning a fashion show to raise
money for their trip. The fashion
show is planned for February 17
and 18 and will be held in SDHS
gym starting at eight o'clock:
Tickets are now on sale for the
event. Prices. are $1.50 for adults,
$1.00 for students and fifty cents
for children and senior citizens.
Tickets will also be available at
the -door. The fashion show will

The girls', volleyball teams
played in Goderich last week,
Jan. 30;-Winglrartr -teams were
also there.. Our junior team won
'one garhe out of the first three
they played against Goderich.

Wingham in two very close

The 'team plays next at Clinton
on Feb. 6. Exeter and Wingham
teams will be there also to
compete.

Travellers Hold Bakesale
Last Sitiirday, February 8, the
home economics students going
to Yucatan during the March
break (the Travellers), held a
bake sale in Beckers. The sale
was held from nine to five o'clock.
The girls are pleased with their
profit and they really appreciated
all the people who bought from
them.
The top three teams from each
division will go to the playoffs,
WOSSA "A", March 8 at
Middlesex.
Girls' Curling Team
The girls' curling team which
consists of Faye Storey (skip),
Elizabeth Pryce, Willy Blom, and
Linda Bell, took part in the Huron
Perth Curling Bonspiel held in
Stratford on February 5. They
played against Stratford
Northwestern and Vfingham. The
team came in second place, one
and a half points behind the
winner, Mitchell. They now get a
chance to play at WOSSA on:
FebrUary 21 in Sarnia. Mr.
Morton, coach, said the team
curled really well.
• Bowling Teams
The bowling t earns went to
Chatham on Sunday. February 9
for the Western Ontario Playoffs.
The boys Won their games. Now
they go to Toronto for the All
Ontario Playoffs on April 13. This
trip will include a banquet and a
tour of Toronto. They will ago go
to the tourtrament in Hanover on
May 9. This was the first year for
any of our bowling teams to get a,
chance to play in t:ic All Ontario
Playoffs. members of the "girls'
team are Deanna Nobel, Cheryl
Seymour, Joanne Kunz, Susan
Kunder and Nancy Scott.
Members of the boys' team are
Nick ilauwert, John Hauwert,
Kevin Jewitt, Murray Bennewies,
and Terry Young. Miss Weilerr is
the coach.

Pinder new
secretary
The smiling new secretary at
the Seaforth High School
skimming along the halls with the
attendance sheets and a cheery
good morning to all is Mrs. Joan
Pinder, a welcome addition to our
school. Mrs. Pinder is a former
student and a native of Seaforth.
She finds it very nice working
here and we hope she continues
to enjoy herself here.
The typing contest is all over
for another year. At least the
typing part is, now the girls have
to wait and see how they placed
among all thesither schools that
took part in The contest. Jo Anne
Primeau and Tracy Baker were
the members of the junior team
and Tracy Carter and Linda Bell
450 class
in bonspiel
The year four physical
education classes held ' their
annual bonspiel last Friday,
January 31 at Seaforth Curling
Club. The bonspiel marked the
end of a month of teaching the
game of curling to the 450
classes. Miss Weiler and. Mr.
Johnston were the teachers.
Fifty-three students took part in
the bonspiel, and there were
twelve teams. Dave Reid's team
placed first in the bonspiel with a
score of 36. Kevin Jewitt, Nancy
Van Dorren isd Dorothy Van
Doornick were the other. members
of the 'team. Second 'place holder
in the bonspiel was the team of
Gord Carnochan which included
George, Zwep, Maryanne
Flanagan and Connie Van Dyke.
Their score was 35 and 3/4, just
3/4 of a point behind first place
winner. Perry Broom's team took
third,place with a score of 29 and
3/4. Members of his team were
Ed. MeClure, Barb Smith, Mary
Ann Van Bakel and Colin Young.
Each team played two games.
Miss-Weiler presented a trophy to
the winning team at the end of the
day.
