The Liberal Party in Ontario,
Which will hold its Annual
Meeting and Policy Conference
'
in Windsor starting February 7th,
is expecting a record turn-out for
the three-day event.
Jeffrey L. D. King, Ottawa,
President of the Ontario Party,
said it is apparent this 'year's
convention will draw the largest
;gathering of Lib.rals in years.
More than 1400 delegates have
registered in advance, he said,
and some riding association
delegate lists are still 'being
processed.
"Total registration, has
'avera.g.,a,abotit 1200 at annual
• meetings for the last several
years. VCIC've already exceeded
that figure and all indications are
that we can expect at least
another few hundred in addition
to those now registered."
Mr. King , said that
announcement 'of a recent Gallup
Poll which moved the Liberals
ahead of the Progressive
4 Conservatives in' popularity
among Ontario , voters was

view of the convention's timing.
The poll showed the Liberals
with 41 per cent of the popular
-vote •arnong derided. voters, night
per cent ahead of the
Conservatives.
A highlight of the Liberal,
Annual. Meeting will be ' an
address by Party Leader Robert
F. Nixon., Mr. Nixon is scheduled
' to address the- Windsor
convention February 8th.
Delegates attending„the event
will spend the better part of a day
discussing policy. Because the

Ontario government' is expected
to call an election later this year,.
emphasis will be on provincial
rt concerns. Four major themes will
dominate the sessions;_ jobs.
houses, schools, and government.
Format for the pblicy
conference will resolve around
panel participants who will begin
each session With brief
comments. Delegates then will
make their views known on, the
topics being debated.
Chairman of a panel which will
deal with schools is Bruce Bone,
former chairman of the Metro
Toronto School Board. Mr. Bone
has announced he will' be a
candidate fowr the Liberals in the
forthcoming provincial election.
Joe Cruden, Toronto,
immediate past president of the
Liberal Party in Ontario, is to act
as chairman of a session
concerned with government. June
ROwlands, director of research for
the Liberal caucus at 'Queen's
Park, will chair discussions on
housing. Ed. Tharen, President of
the Hamilton and District Liberal
Association, will be moderator at
•a policy workshop charged with
developing policy on jobs.

This years Holiday H appenings program will include a 'trip
to, Tamonto,yo the Ontario Science Centre. The program will
be fiVays in duration during the Mid Winter Break , March
17 - 2 . Chilren will have an, opportunity to' participate in
activitieklike `Crania, gym, active and passive games, arts and
crafts, outdoor activities, skating, movies and special events.
The cost bf the program will be ten dollars for five exciting
days. Brochureslare being distributed throughout the schools
but additional brochures may be picked up at the Recreation
Office.We do have a few positions open for students 16 and
over to work in•. this program.
Our Yoga program has been changed to Wednesday
evenings, 9:30 - 10:30 commencing Wednesday, February 12,
interested persons should register at the Recreation Office or
during the first night.
A St. Johns Ambulance Course will be beginning next
week, Monday, February 10th at Scafofth District High
School from 7:30 - 9:30. This course is eight weeks in
duration. Anyone interested should contact the Recreation
office prior to Monday, February 10th.
Approval of a provincial' grant
of $11,000.00 to the Maitland
Valley Conservation Authority for
the Saratoga Conservation Area
has been received according to
Murray Gaunt. Huron Bruce
M.P.P.
The Conservation Area
presently comprises some 357
actres of land in the Township of,
West Wawanosh, County of
Huron.
In keeping with the Authority;
established program of acquiring
land in the Saratoga Swamp area.
the Authority proposes to acqu;re
an addiflonal.,400 'acres in the
Toyvnshifi. of West Wawanosh for
the enlargement of this
Conservation Area.' The proposed
acquisition is primarily swamp
forest with cedar, hemlock.
swamp maple and some white
pine comprising the bulk of the
eforest species. Sharp's Creek
traverses the south-west corner of
the property.
All member municipalities will
bear ate Authority's share of the
cost.
