The mile was in 2.09:3 and the pay off was 5.00. In the tenth race Pebbies Girl owned by George Feagan . Ooderich and Ron Feagan , Dundas was second with Gerry Roebuck driving. Saturday afternoon in the ninth race at London, Geordies Mile owned by Jeanie and Hugh Galbraith of Dashwood and driven by Wayne Dupee of Clinton was third. Apparently Brian Leonhardt has been singing the same song for about 3 weeks new. Leonhardt `returned to the Flyers' line up 3 weeks ago from a Southern vacation and it seems he cartt.quite "get enough" points. He has, in those three games. collected 13 points. They include 7 goals to go along with 6 assists. As a result of his recent scoring. exploits he has- vaulted himself into the thick of the scoring race. It's quite a feat since scoring 13 points in 3 games is not an easy task - in any league. Last Sunday night (Feb. 2) he led the Flyers. (3 goals and 2 assists) to a 5 - 2 victory over the' slumping Stars. Jim C arter and Ben Akker netted the other , --F1 ye rs' goals. Carter has been hot himself of late and has also jumped into the scoring race. The Flyers "Troika" of Leonhar dt, Cart er corner*. Seaforth pulled their goal tender in the final minutes of play and with one second remaining Belmont scored into the open net. Don Nicholson was Seaforth's big gun for the night with two goals and two assists. McDonald, Phillips, K. Doig also shared in the scoring. Both Ferny and Bill floshart (Stars) were goalies in the --past and both players decided to score goals instead of pick them out of the net. These two made the transition from goalie to forward with ease. Ray , Devereaus has not got .much press (he never does) of late but continues to play very, very well. The Kings' defenceman picked up' pne goal and assisted on 3 others to give himself 17 points on the season. (6 - 11) Because of the play of these two men the Kings could turn out to be the',sleeper. The classes, which will be conducted by Mrs. Doreen January 25 afternoon and evening when the Sotlth Western Ontario Square Dance Association held their monthly dance at the Prince Charles School in London. About 300 persons attended. Lois and Edward Wise of R.R.3, Clinton taught. the new round dance '(Forget-me-not- Waltz) and also cued rounds from 7 - 8 p.m. Gerry and Dorothy Dumont (formerly of Clinton) invited the Clinton group to their home for a lovely lunch following the dance. Two of the local couples are attending the 1 lth Annual Alo ha State Square Dance convention in Hawaii February 6 - 11. They flew from Toronto February 2 for 2 three-week vacation. St. Marys 5-0 top score in broomball The Archer's team beat the BP Dumpers in an exceptionally high scoring ' broomball game in Seaforth League play last week, 'Five Archer goals were scored by Keith Williamson, from Gord Pryce, Gord Machan 'from Williamson, Macham from Pryce, Pr yce front Machan and Dave Linten from G. Bennett. The Dumpers didn't get a single goal. In other mens' broomball action the Junior Farmers beat Parr Line 3 - 0. Goal scorers were Brad Finlayson, Casey Van Bakpl and' Jim Henderson. Hensall defeated Chiselhurst 2 - 1, with Spike Bell and Ed Prezcator scoring for Hensall and Craig Kerslake for Chiselhurst. A Centralia-Genesco game ended in a scoreless tie. • In ladies' play Blyth beat Seaforth 3 - 0 with Bonnie Shannon. Mary Ann Cook and Marg Heffron scoring. Hens-all beat Parr Line 1.0 with Elaine Carter scoring on an assist from Ruth Willcrt. Centralia beat St. Marys 1;0 on a goal by Donna Jones and the Junior Farmers, Chiselhurst game ended- in a scoreless tie. In earlier games Hensall ladies beat the Junior Farmers on a goal by Kay Davis. St. Marys and Seaforth tit'il 1-1 with goals by Satah Morgan and Pat Mathers. The Parr Line-Centralia game was postponed. January 23 in mess' play Chiselhurst defeated Parr Line 2.1, with goals by Dave Mclnally and Lloyd Upshall for Chiselhurst and Harvey Riley for Parr Line. CCAT defeated Archers on a goal by Rick Archaumbault. In the second period goal tender Hugh Nichol was taken to Hospital after he received a blow on the head from a slap shot and was replaced by Larry Seymour. Bill and Grace Campbell and John and Gwen Patterson jour- neyed to Listowel on Saturday to a mixed bonspiel. They captured first prize-on the 9 a.m. draw and were just half a point from winning the trophy. Dave Cornish took a rink to'Exeter on Saturday to the Scott-McKinley Hatcheries bonspiel. and came up top winners and 'brought home (you guessed it) turkeys. Other members of his rink were Vice - Herb Travis, Sec. - Ron Bennett, Lead - Berne McKinley. Bob Ste. Marie, Bill Lobb, Bob Fotheringham and Ross Lovett curled in St. Marys at the Bean Producers Bonspiel. While they didn't come out on top they did come home with prizes. Marjory Papple, Kay Sharp, Marlene Roberton and Marg Sallows were in Ayr competing in the Business Girls district play- downs. They lost their first game Friday. won Saturday a.m. but lost Saturday evening. Better luck next year girls. The Clinton Wheel 'n Dealers Square Dance Club resumed weekly dancing in the Clinton Public school on Wednesday, January 8 after the holiday break. The club i. pleased to announce that the beginner class of 20 willies have been dancing at the Hullett Central School in Londesboro each Monday evening since January 6, when the group was organized in co-operation with the-Rullett Recreational Committee. Dale Kennedy and Kevan Broome scored the Stars goals. Gary Montgomery was outstanding in net for the St ars. The score could have been much higher but Montgomery stood his ground and kept the game respectable.. The Flyers jumped into a quick 4 - 0 lead and appeared headed for a rout. The Stars came back with a pair of ','quickies" and it looked as if they might, pull it out but Leonhardt's 3rd goal with 6 minutes left salted the game away for the Flyers. The Beavers broke into a two goal lead as Bob Beuttenmiller scored twice to give the -Beavers a 2 to 0 lead before Mitchell scored just before the end of the 1st period. • In the second period Mitchell came on strong scoring twice to give Mitchell a 3 to 2 lead. With the Beavers a man short Bill McLaughlin scored on a nice passing play from Ken Devereaux. Seaforth scored two more fast goals with Jack MeIlwain and Paul Rau giving the Beavers a 5 to 3 lead at the end of Remember! The classes, to be held at SDHS, will run from 7:30 to 9:30 , according to John McCarroll, Physical Education consultant, with the board.
