E,arly last week theStudent's,
Council purchased lumber with
Whi,eli to finish the long awaited
Student's Lounges The finished
lounge will be forty feet long and
twenty-six feet wide. "
- Within the lounge will be
situated the Tuck Shop, the frame
of which already erected. The
Tuck Shop will sell school
supplies, candy and soft drinks
(during periods in which the
cafeteria is not open) to the
student body.
Last week volunteers helped to
paint the concrete walls which
will be enclosed by the frame
walls of the lounge. This
undercoat will serve as a base fir
the anticipated murals which will
hopefully decorate the walls of
the room.
The walls to be erected will be
of two by four studding with
shifeen inch centres, covered both
sides with wooden panelling ,And
finished with a baseboard. Since
the Lounge will be a seper4te unit
unto itself, having no direct,
access through existing entrances
into the study room, the Lounge
will have a door along the long
side of the room, which will have
a lock on it, to close the Lounge
new sport this year-snowshoeing.
Many of the students have never
tried snowshoeing and by the
sound of it they are having lots of
fun learning. The students get a
chance to snowshoe about one or
two times a week. They are also
learning curling and skiing so
they have a busy schedule. Miss
Weiler and Mr, Johnston are the
teachers. •
Basketball Games
By Linda Smith
Last Thursday the boys'
basketball teams played Wing-
ham. The boys did a marvelous
job. The Midgets tied their game
19-19; Juniors won their game
. The annual• typing contest at
SDHS is taking Place again.
Runoffs have already been con-
ducted at the school. Two
•sibdents are allowed to enter each
division„ Jhere are two divisions
- Junior and Senior. A choice has
been made as far as juniors are
concerned. But the senior entries
have yet to be chosen. The final
contest will take place this Friday
at 10:30 a.m. Miss Harris, typing

in the parish hall. Prizes were
won'by: Ladies first - Mrs.Rody,

Alex Finleon has returned from
Wingham hospital but is still in a
wheel chair being hoSpitilized
since a tractor accident in
December.
Rev. Father Phalen returned
home to St. Augnstine from St.
Joseph Hospital., London on
when not in use.
Hopefully'-the floor of the
Lounge will be,xarpeted. The
suggestion has been made to
cover the floor with a patchwork
of carpet samples and scraps, that
, would be colourful aid relatively
inexpensive.
The room is to contain chairs
and couches and a 'few tables.
Permission has also been given to
move ,four carrels that are not
being used in the Library down in
to the Lounge, for .the use of
people wishing to study in the
Lounge.
The purpose of the Lounge is to
52-43; and the Seniors won their
game 58-54.
Thursday was spirit day at the
high school and it •was sure good •
to see the students dresatd in
black and gold, come out and
cheer our teams to victory.
After the boys' good show on
Thursday, they faced defeat on
Saturday at a basketball tourna-
ment. Seniors played Dorchester
and lost 78-28; Juniors played
Goderich and lost 52-9; and the
Midgets played East Elgin and
also lost 56-45.
The boys have put out a lot of
effort. We hope they continue to
work well as a team.
teacher thinks the girls have a
good chance of doing something
valid in the test as they are all
typing well. The contest is being
sponsored by the Ontario Busi-
ness Education Association.
Winners' names might not be
available for several weeks.

you who sneaked into the kitchen
during the-sponsor's message, I'll

the ri&ht word, it really comes
down to a matter of volume) work;
play at -games such as cards,
darts, chess or scrabble, listen to
music or just do nothing.
The work is being financed
entirely by the Students Council
and the total cost will probably
run into $500,00.
Since this is such a good project
.and one long overdue, it is hoped
that the entire student body will
support the building of the
Lounge with volunteer labour
and/or donations of, old, disused
furniture.
With a lot of help, the Lounge
can be finished in no time.- That
way, it will benefit everyone
sooner.

Consider the Toronto Dominion
Retirement Savings Deposit.
The TD RSD is a bank deposit. That's the big diffet.-
epce. Its high-yielding interest rate is adjusted twice yearly to
match that of the TD five-year Certificate of Deposit. And you
never have to worry about fluctuations in the market value
of stocks and bonds as you would with some other R.R.S.P.'s.
Finallirthere's no interest penalty for deregistering your
TD RSD at any time.
As with all R.R.S.P.'s, eligible annual contributions are •
deductible from your current taxable income - up to $4,000 in
some cases. So depending on your circumstances, the 1974
income tax you defer can be substantial.
The Money you put into a TD RSD works hard to earn
more money for you. For example; ,if you start your TD RSD-
at age 35 and contribute $1,500 at the beginning of each year,
you'll have put in $45,000 by the time'you're 65. Assuming
a conservative rate of return over the 30.years of 73 ,;70 per
annum, compounded semi-annually, your savings will have
grown to $171,,2771
Your TD Manager is the person to ask about a TD Retire-
ment Savings Deposit. You'll get all the facts, and you'll be_
pleased to know that you can start for as little as $250 with
contributions of $100 or more whenever you wish. But hurry,
March 1st, 1975 is the deadline for the 1974 tax year.

Girl's Volleyball
The Girl's junior and senior
volleyball teams played in Wing-
ham last Thursday, January 23.
Miss Harris, coach of the junior
team', said that although the
juniors lost both their matches
against Clinton and Exeter, they
played very well and the scores
were very close. Miss Harris said
that the loss was dot a matter of
lack of skill but because of nerves.
The seniors did a little better
than the juniors. They won their
game against Clinton but lost
against Exeter. The scores in
these games were very close also.
Miss Weiler, coach of the senior
team, said this was the team's
first outing. They worked really'
hard but again, she thinks nerves
got the better of them.
The next tournament is next
Thursday against Goderich and
Wingham.
Bowling Teams Formed
Both a boy's and girl's howling
team have been -formed.
Members of the girl's bowling
team are: Cheryl Seymour;
