SDHS
The shortest term of the year has begun.
In fact, there are now only thirty-five
school days left until examinations begin
again. By the time holidays are over, and
exams returned. March will be completely
finished. That leaves April.
A little over two weeks into April the
annual At Home or Formal win be held.
There can be no helping the inevitability of
• a final mad. scramble in th ose first two
_.....mweeks of April to finish and set in place the
decorations. It weuld be wise though,* to
have the decorlations made before April, so
that those last two weeks, bectic -though
they, may be, could take on some
semblance of order,

the Formal, not one :aspect of the

last Weeks did the fmal .roduct turn out to
be one of the handsomest FormalS in
recent years.
It could be made even better .
If plans - detailed plans - a're drawn up
now, the final result of all these efforts will
have a greater cohesion, and a finer polish
• The production of decorations can abaci
be begun earlier, and the work on them
could .proceed at a more leisurely price,
with a result of increased quality.
If' the plans are carefully considered,
perhaps a scheme of greater sintplicitY,
with greater utility, and thus, wit'n little
doubt, a more impressive Formal can be
brought about.:
These plans have, the added t)enefit of
allowing the Formal Committee to shop
around for materials, thus deer easing our
expenses. r.
Perhaps this year, if we be gin now, we
can avoid a rush.job, spread the work load

the itd, without a sacrifi ee of quality or

• :\ - game was held last Friday
afternoon, January 10. The final
score was 2-4 for Team In the
second game,;which begin at
3:50, team III went against team
IV. Team IV won with a score of
2-4.
The tournament is a single
round robin`tournament with each
team playing each other "fealty
once. A match is played at each
meeting. A match consists of IS
points. Each game must be won
by a margin of two points. Total
points will determine the playoff
teams. Two points will be
awarded for each game won.
The top three teams will be in
the playotis.."..-- tst place- team
received a bye/to the finals. 2nd
and .311.ptace teams will playoff to
meet the 1st team. Playoffs will
consist of a two out of'- three
match. Six players will play' at a
time with• substitution being on a
rotation basis. No one is allowed
to play on a team whose name is
not listed. No substitutes are
allowed. A team cannot play with
less than 'five 'players present.
The match will be defaulted and
the opponents given four points.
The games take place every
Friday afternoon so the next
.game is January 17.
J ohnson, one of the coaches says
'that the results show what a lack
of gym space does for the
potential of a team.
He says the Stratford teams are,
, able to practice about two flours
every night and our teams only
get a chance to practice one and a
half„ hours a week because of a
lack of gym space. Mr. Johnson
also said all three teams made a
great effort. The next game was
in Seaforth :against Clinton on
Tuesday, January, 14. Scores'
from that game were not available
'in time for this, column.
Shoot-out Held
A shoot-out was held during
half-time at the basketball game
on Thursday. Three people took
isM.t. They were Mr. Hbok, Ann
Albert and Catherine Anti.I.ane.
The shoot-out was simply an
attempt by these three people to
do a font shot. Those who were
lucky enough to sjink a basket won
five dollars each. Both Mr. Hook
and Ann Albert sank their shots.
Catherine Ann was not so lucky.
The shoot-out is being spon-
sored by the Boys' Athletic
Association and the Girls' Ath-
letic Association. Tickets are ten
cents each and just before every
home game, three names wiLV/e
chosen. Each of these people get.
a try at the basket. It could be
worth five dollars. For ten cents,
what can you lose?
Dance' series
The Student's Cospcil's
monthly dance is being ht fB next
Friday. January 24 in the SDHS
auditorium.
The dance" will begin at 9:00
p.m. and end at midnight. As
usual the doors will close at 11:00
o'clock.
The dance will feature Junction
and ticket prices will be $2.00,
$1.75 with 'student's card.
The Council this year has
sponsored a. series of very suc-
cessful dances. The firSt two'
earned some 5600. The next two
someho* managed to break even,
a surprise considering the busy
calendars 'round and about the
area those two nights. It perhaps
says something for the quality of
this year's' tlaftces.
