Employers and Employees
New
Employment Standaids Act
EffeCtive January 1, 1975 the new. Employment
Standards Act covers the existing standardS:
minimum wage, vacation pay, overtime pay, termi-
nation pay, collection of wages and provides for:
•
Public Holidays
Employees are entitled to seven paid statutory
• holidays; New Year's Day, Good Friday, Victoria
Day, Dominion Day, Labour Day, Thanksgiving
. and Christmas Day. (Conditions and exceptions
apply in certain situations.)
Overtime Pay
Overtime pay at time and one-half the regular
rate for hours in excess of forty-four in a week..
Equal Benefits
The Equal Benefits provision will be brought
- into force at dilater date.
Pregnancy Leave
Pregnancy leave is extended to seventeen,
weeks for employees with one year's service or
more' and covers all employers having one or
more employees.
Transportation
The Act no longer requires an employer to pro-
vide transportation for female employees finish-
ing or starting work between the hours of mid-
night and six o'clock-in the forenoon or prohib-
its females urider18 working after midnight.

changes to the Act.

The Dublin W.I. held their
Christmas meeting at the home of
Mrs,Charles Friend starting with
a pot luck supper. Roll call was a

Open House on Sunday, Decem-
ber 15 in honour of Mr. & Mrs.
Edward Scherbarth Sr: of
Brodhagen, who are celebrating
their 60th wedding anniversary.
The tea, table was centred by a
lovely-bouquet of golden chrysan-
themums and flanked by two -
large golden candles. The rooms
were lovely with a proffision of
flowers, many being gifts. The
family §reeted the guests and
served light refreshments.
Scherbarth were
married December 24, 1914 at the
parsonage of St. Peter's Lutheran
Church in Brodhagen, by the late
• Rev. Herman Weigand. They

24 grandchildren and 8 great-
grandchildren.
Following their marriage they
took up residence on a farm in
Logan township until 1955 when
they retired to their present home
in Brodhagen. Always interested
in community affairs, Mr. Scher-
barth_ has served on the Logan
township council, the church
board and st ill .is a member of
, the Brodhagen Chamber of
Commerce. In his youth he
learned the carpenter trade which
assisted him greatly during his
farming years as a hobby during
retirement., Mrs. Scherbarth has
been an active member of the
Lutheran Church Women for
many years. She has always been
interested in gardening and
growing flowers and homemaking
handicrafts.
