The Empire is in receipt of a
marked copy of the Denver (Col.)
Rotel Bulletin for Deo. 4, containing
a story of a decidedly romantic affair
said to have transpired in this city.
The Bulletin quotes good authority for
the tale, and the Empire reprints it
for the entertainment of its readers.
The Colorado journal says:
The following little romance in real
life comes from the Queen's hotel,
Toronto, Ontario, and is vouched for
by James Richmond, the chief clerk
of that popular hostelry—a gentleman
whose veracity is only equaled by his
good looks and winning ways.
About two years ago there was stop-
ping at the Queen's a young lady by
the mune of Amelia Rivers, whose
quiet demeanor and lady -like manners
won for her many silent admirers.
At the time Miss Rivers was there
Archibald Williame,_a traveller for the
well•knowu wholesale dry goods house
of John Macdonald ak Co., was 'off the
road,' and made the Queen's laic home
while in Toronto.
For three weeks Mr. Williams found
himself seated at the same table as
Miss Rivers and was very much
charmed with her appearance. Day
after day he hoped against hope that
the occasion rniglit arise whereby he
would get an opportunity to break the
ice, and get acquainted with his fair
vis -avis, and eta. Ilene arose.
At last one day the waiter left Miss
Rivers without any salt within her
reach; lookfug over' at Mr. Williams
she said, in sweet silvery tones, "Pass
me the malt, please."
This was tree golden opportunity for
which be long had sought and wept
because s, he found it not—it little soon-
er, and, seizing it, he began a ootiver••
sation which, much to his surprise,
was quite agreeable. to his companion.
After this they managed to meet three
times a day; and at last they were
seen to go out together At the end
of two months Williams proposed and
was accepted.
When shall we be married? asked
his b uancee. -
