Rev. 1,1r. Harris, of Guelph, occupied
the Methodist Church pulpit on Sunday,
both morning and eveniug,.n the absence
of their pastor, the Rev. Mr. Casson, at
Listowel.
The Epworth League met on Monday
evening, instead J Friday evening, as is
usua), because of Miss Phelps' lecture in
rhe town hall on Friday evening. Two
very good addresses were given by Mr.
Welts on "Is Alcohol Food?" and by
(v1r. A. Lambert, on "Prohibition."
These meetings are always interesting
and as 't rule the vestry of the church is
crowded. A cordial invitation is extend-
ed to all to attend those meetings every 1
1''riday evening.
A. Anderson, Esq., merchant tailor,

Mr. H. J. Chapman, who came here a
short time ago from 15111. Forest, to run. a
Brussels. photographing business, has closed up

Emmanuel R. aver, at the age of 62
years, 6 months and 1 day. The deceas-
ed was a sufferer 0f cancer of the
stomach for about a year, which was the
cause of death. lie was born in Corn-
wall, England, in the year 1831, and came
to East Oxford with his parents when
but 3 years of age. In 1859 he took up
land on the 3rd lino of this township,
where he remained until about 9 months I
ago, when he disposed of his farm and
removed to Brussels. Ile removed from
there to the residence of his son-in-law,
S. Walker, on the 6th line; a few weeks
before his decease. The deceased leaves
a widow, (a daughter of the late Alex-

and three daughters, all of whom. are
