The fall show, ander the auspices of the 1urnberry Agriclutural Somet was held in Whitehorse, on 'Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. The exhibition building Was found to 1,0 a great deal too small to hold the exhibit and have tho articles placed as they should be, and they were crowded in as best they could Oso. The necessity 4 F I►- for more accommodation was demon- strated, and no doubt the directors will provide it Before) another show is held,. '1.'he consensus of opinion is that the new grounds will he all that is to be desired as show grounds, They were dry and the Horse ring was a great deal better than it wee thought pos. sable to have it for this year, Before another yearit is, expected, tho grounds will be greatly improved, and, a good track built, The exhibit in the build, iug was excellent in all its various departments. Grain was shown in abundance, and the sample was all that could he desired. Roots and vegetables were metre good, and large, considering the dry season. The manaels were large, and showed that the drought did not effect them. Our townsman, Mr. D. McKiulay, carried off the red ticket for them, against keen competition. In fact, it may be said, that in no other department of the show was the competition keener than in the roots and vegetables, the old veteran prize winners, Messrs D McKinley, W Taylor, 4V H Mc- Cracken, C Henderson and W Hen- derson & Son being large exhibitors in this department. The display of fruit was not up to former years, especially was the falling off noticeable in apples and pears. Of grapes there was a splendid exhibit, showing that this section of country is well adapted for their growth. Ladies' work made a very attractive display, and was greatly admired by visitors to the fair. The honors were divided among quite a number of exhibitors. Ll horses the exhibit was good, some splendid animals being shown in the different classes. Cattle mere not so largely represented as we should like to see, especially in the thoroughbred class. Sheep were shown in large numbers, tho Leicesters being especially well represented and the quality of those shown demonstrates that our farmers are giving a good deal of attention to this branch of stock rais- ing. Pigs were not numerously ex• hibited, but some geed specimens of Berkshires, Yorkshires and Chester Whites were on the ground. Li poultry, the exhibit was large, a great many of the standard breeds of fowls beim; represented by soina very fine specimens. This branch of the far- mer's atock, does not receive that atten- tion that ih should at his /lauds. Money can De made, and is made, from fowls, even with the poor atten- tion given them by farmers generally, and it they were properly cared for and fed, they would well repay the far- mers for the hitter care. The display of plauts and flowers; was fine, and in this department the competition was close. The fine arts were represented by several nice exhibit:a, and the honors were divided between a number of exhibitors. NOTES. The attendance was fair and the gate receipts will foot up to quite a snug sunt. The conduct of some of the boys on the first night of the show could not be called "good " Had they been caught at some of their depradatione they would more than likely have re- posed it) the lock up over night. Mr 1wn► Dore made a splendid ex- hibit of buggies, and Messrs T H Ross and wm Gannett had splendid exhibits of agricultural implements on the ground. Mr. D. Showers, of wingliam Puinp works, had a nice exhibit of pumps. The Directors and other officers of the soeiety did all that mid he done to make the show the success that it was.
