submerged log.
Mr. Hicknell drowned while
trying to swim to shore. A '
companion, Frank Gross of
Kitchener, was rescued by' two
other members of the group in-
cluding the dead man's son,
Patrick, as .he clung to the
,overturned boat.
Mr. Hicknell was a son cif
Mrs. Hie:knell and the late ,
Augustine (Gus) ,Hicknell. Sur-
viving ar e four son's, 'Patrick,
James, David and Joseph, all of
Kitchener; two daughters Jane
and Marianne of Kitchener; one
brother Maurice of Kitchener
and two sisters Anna Mae (Mrs.
Earl. Pearce) of St. Thomas and '
Marjorie (Mrs. Joseph Ztoger)
of Maryhill; also survived by'
one grandson.
JOHN W. CARTER
„John W. Carter, 84, of Sea-
forth, died Wedesday, Oct.
10th in Clinton Public Hospital.
Born in Hullett Township, he
was the son of the late John
Carter and Margaret Dodds. He
married the former Myrtle Flo-
rence Nichol in Blyth in 1913.
The couple farthed in Hullett
Township..' until retiring to Sea-
forth in 1945. For a number of
years following his retirement
Mr. Carter was on the staff of
Scott Memorial Hospital, Mrs.
Carter died in March, 1971.
Mr. Carter was a member of
First Presbyterian Church, Sea-
forth.
He is survived by two sons,
Cleve, of R.R.2, Seaforth, Ken-
neth of Brampton; a daughter,
-Mrs. Harold (Margaret) Knight
of Hensall; three sisters, Mrs.
Malcolm (Lillian) McKellar,
Mrs. John (Effie) Taylor, Mrs.
Thomas (Gladys) Flynn, all
of Seaforth; eight granichildree
and seven great-grandchildren.
The body was at the G. A.
Whitney funeral home, Seaforth,
where services were. held
Saturday, October .13 at 2
p.m. Rev.J. C. Britton of
Hensall officiated. Burial fol-
lowed in Maitlandbank Cemetery.
Pallbearers were, Oliver
Wright, John Bell, Elgin Nott,
Robert McMichael, Chas. Eyre
and' Bill Brugger. Flower bear-
ers were Stewart Dale and WM.
Livingston.
