The oath.rf office was duly subscribed
by all members of said court, when
it was moved by Wm. .Reid, secouded by
J. Johnston, that in absence of the Reeve,
the Deputy-lteeie be chairman of the
(Court of Bovisiob -Carried.
The following appeals were then taken
up and disposed of as follows: 3Yrn Colyiu,

lot 17, concession 2, reduced 16100; Sarni
Hutton, ton high assessed on slot 3, con-
cession 6, reduced 8100; John Little, too
high assessed ou lot 21, couoessiou 1,

withdrawu.; Gavin Miller, too high assess-
ed on lots.27 and 28, no redaction; David
Taylor, too high assessed on int 8, conces-
sion 5, no reduction ; Peter Clark, too high

Kuntz, that the Court of Revision adjourn
till 2 otclock p m -Carried.
The court met at 2 o'clock, when it was

Reid, that as all appeals before the Court
of 1tevision.have been considered, that the
alterations in assessment be confirmed and
the court closed -Carried.
The regular meeting of couuoil was then
opened. The minutes of last meeting were

made a raid a short time ago along .the

On Monday, 9.th. May, Mr. John
Melvin, who was .probably the oidest
man in the township, died' at the
'residence of his son William, at the
renaaakable age of ,9I years and spine
mentis. Though in years far past the
usual litnit of htituatii expectation of life

remarkably active ,and attebded the
cherub the last Sunday but one of his
career on earth. At such a great see

The deceased was bora in the North of
Ireland and many years ago emigrat-
ed to Canada and became one ot the
pioneers settlers ot Halton Oour:ty.
For about 17 years previous to his
death he resided in the township of
Oulross. His wife'u maiden name was
Reid. Eleven years ago the aged
couple celebrated ti,e 50th anniversity
of their marriage, so that for 61 years
they had shared the joys and sorrows
of life. Mrs. Melvin is stili living
at the age of 85. The tuemberd of
the Wilily are William, 'flies. and
James residing in Culross township,
John living in Norval, Samuel (deceas-
ed), Jane the wife of Mt. Latimer,.
Greenock towusaiip, Ann married to
Mr Jetta Y. Scott, Cdlroos township
and Mies Elizabeth residing at home.

We regret to chronicle the demise of
Mrs. James Donnelly, of West Wawa -
nosh, which took place on Sunday
last, May 290, tit the early age of 24
years. Deceased was daughter of
Thnothy Donoghue, Esq., of East
Wawaboslt, but was born and lived
in that township till her marriage
four years a :Fra, Mr, Donnelly. Her
death resulted frotheonsumpticn,
which followed a severe attack of la
grippe a year before. Tho romaine
were interred in St. Augustine ceme-
tery on Tuesday and were followed by
a large concourse of sorrowing friends
and relatives. Thee a happy home
is saddened by the ta:;ing away of one
