Another mediumfor Which he has a particular flair is water color. With the muted tints and shades available with water based paints he makes sides and allow- scapen glow with subtle color, He also works in oils and has an interesting collection of paint- ings primarily landscapes. Het* an admirer of Tom Thomson of the Group of Seven, and has tried several in the artist'sl style. Mrs. Boswell's favorite is one of A rowboat moored on a lake called "Misty Morn" painted in 1958. MK' Boswell claims his best work is a landscape hanging in Shinen's Store. The Seaforth Chamber of Commerce presented the painting to Sam Shinen in appreciation of his contribution to the business community from 1942-1968, Many of the Boswell's friends, relatives and family can boast of a Boswell given as a gift. He likes to experiment. Se- veral years ago at sale in To- ronto by Sotheby's, Art Auction- eers of London, G. B., Mr. BOswell saw two paintings by Lady Simcoe, wife of first Gov- ernor Generals Lord Simcoe. They were tiny 4" by 5" water- colors on birchbark. Liking the effect Mr. Boswell has also painted on various backings, like birchbark. At present he is try- ing oil paints on glass. Even if he doesn't like the result he says, "Never throw any of your work away; you may learn something from it". And to fellow artists, this advice: "Still life is very good discipline; using a palette knife technique will give you clean colors; with water colors, you can pick it up and put it down without spoiling the effect."' Community oriented Mr. Bos- well also belongs to many organ- izations. He retired this year as campaign chairman of the CNIB, although he still serves on the committee. He was treasurer of ;the TB association before the amalgamation of Huron and with Mr.. and' Mrs. DM:7,d e- gele and Mrs. Mary Thornton. Mrs. Stewart is a niece of the late Joseph Thornton.
