Elliott,printing, —The annual meeting of the share- holders of the Wingham Temperance Hall Company was held in the Temper- ance Hall, on Wednesday Last. There was a large attendance of shareholders - The president, Mayor Gordon, occupied the chair. After the minutes had been read and adopted, the report of the auditors was read. It showed the Com- pany as in good financial position, nearly $6)0 of the capital stock being paid up. After some discussion, the report was adopted. It was decided that no new Stock bo sold this year. The following fere elected Directors for the ensuing year : Dr. Chisholm, R. Anderson, A. Dawson, R. Elliott and D. Sutherland. At a meeting of the Directors, held just fifter the shareholders' meeting adjourn- d, Dr. Chisholm was elected president; Dawson, vice-president ; A. E, Smith, asurer, and R. Elliott, secretary. Reeve Sperling reported that the Com- mittee appointed re cleaning out the Lower Wingham pond, had waited on the Turn - berry Council soliciting assistance towards that end, but that body had declined to grant any aid. Mr. Sparling stated that Mr. W. Green, the owner of the pond, had offered to clean it out for $300 and' wonld contribute $100 of above sum himself; he to have all timber taken out of pond. The matter was left in hands of same commit- tee. Mr. Geo. McKenzie stated that he had taken objection to councillors sitting at the Council board who had not the necessary property qualification and he intended to carry it out. He said that there were Councillors sitting at the board to -night who were in that position and if they did not resign he would take action. Moved by John Elder, seconded by R. C. Sperling, that the managers of the Mech- anics' Institute be asked to open the read- ing room to the public, freo of charge— Carried, The Mayor stated that the factories had not paid their payments which were duo en first of February.
