i n Dairymen's .Association. executive committee of the :I AWeste Dairymen's Association met In the erett►ry's ohce,London, Tues- day after'loon of Inst week. The members pres;:rlt were: John Geary, president ; lion. Thos. Ballantyne, tratford, A. Pettullo, Woodstook, and J. S. Pearce, London. Important business in reference to the coming season's work was transaatt:d, It was decided to make arrangements for in- struction to ae given during the mond] of April and part of Iday, in four cheese factories in the west to cheese., makers on the very bet methods of making early cheese. Tho four factor- ies chosen are Woodstock, Galloway's, Harrietsville and Elma. These fac- tories begin operations about April 1, and furnish an opportunity to cheese- 'li akors to spend a few weeks before eginning work in their own factories. Thoroughly cool pet' tit men will be on band to look after I he work and to give practical instruction on the best methods of making a first-class April and May cheese, es well as inforula- Con in operating the Ballc:N:1r test and paying for milk according to the matter fat. This action on the part of the association cannot he too highly com- mended, end every cheese maker in the west ie strongly urged to spend a few weeks at either elle of the factories so as to acquire the latest knowledge and method of making the best early cheese. Early cheese in this section is somewhat inferior, and does not compare favoritnly with the summer and fall make, in meeting the require- ments of l he British market, hence the importance of this new effort, ' The dairy school at Tavistock will be conducted again this season under the able management of Mr. A. T. Bell, and ++ill open about May 1. 1'. A. Alines, the competent inepcc- ' for and instructor of last year, was appointer again for the corning season. His services for inspection and in- structions may be secured by applying to the secretary of the association. -The charges will be $5 per day and expenses for each factory visited. Can You Think. "If you could stand on the moon," said an astronomer to a representative of the New York Tribune, "the earth would appear to you to be 61 times larges than the sun appears to the residents of this mundane sphere; this is because the earth has eight times the diameter of the moon, therefore she must necessarily show the moon- ites 64 times as much surface as the moon shows us. The sun on the other hand, would appear no larger to you from your observatory on the moon than it does from your globe. The earth's atmosphere' being talue, it has been decided that the earth must appear as a blue ball to the outside on- lookers. What a glorious sight it must be to our lunorian neighbors to look upon a bright blue, swift revolv- ing ball 64 times larger than the Sun." Press tbe sail down after sowing small seeds. To nave labor in the garden plan to plant everything in long rows. It is important in handling ever- greens to never let the roots get dry. Onion seed must be planted as early in the spring as the soil can be worked. Onion seed inust be ot the, previous season's growth; older seeds gannet be relied upon. Small fruit is so plentiful as to us- ually make it unprofitable to send any but the best to market. Dead shoots should always be cut out as they are more or less a draft on the vitality of a tree or plant. When black knot has made a start close attention and courau'eons cutting and burning will save them. One advantage with using fresh manure as a mulch with the strawber- ries is that it acts as an invigorator. Wind breaks will often aid materially in growing good crops of fruit. Forest trees are of but little trouble after they start to grow, but along the road they return less profit than fruit trees. Whenever there isnot sufficient time to do everything at the right time in the garden. too much has been under. taken.
