Last Sunday afternoon at the
Optimist Rec. Grounds, the Sea-
forth Merchants Juvenile Base-
ball Club blew a 6 run lead in
the last three innings to allow
Goderich to defeat them by a
score of 7 - 6. Gary Eisler
pitched the first 7 1/3 innings
allowing 4 runs on 5 hits, 6
base on balls, 1 hit by pitch and
struck out 11 Goderich batters.
Eisler (1-0) was relieved by Kevin
Bennett in the eighth. Bennett
(1-2) gave up 3 runs on 2 base

allowing only 1 run, on no hith,

he struck out 10 Seaforth batters.
This was a brilliant performance
by the Goderich reliever. The
real standout for the Merchants
Sunday afternoon was Don Nichol-
son .who made two brilliant
catches which would have been
sure base hits were he not on
the ball, Those two cathdes by
Nicholson were a result of 101%
effort and if more players on
the-team played up to the best
of. their ability, Seaforth would
not have lost the two games they
did lose. The Merchants made
only two errors but they were at
an unfortunate time in the game
as they caused at least two runs.
Goderich picked up five er-
rors. Seaforth left 7 men on
base to Goderich's 8. The
Merchants held Goderich score-
less for the first six innings and
scored a run in the first, second
and third innings, two in the fourth
and another in the sixth to give
them a 6 - 0 lead. Goderich
picked up 1 run in the seventh,
5 runs in the eighth and the
winning run on a wild pitch in

re less in the last three
ings. There was a fair crowd
in attendance to watch the game.
The Merchants next home game is
tonight at 6:30 at the Rec. Grounds
when Exeter will meet the Mer-
chants. Be sure to attend.
The starting line-tlp for the
last game was Don Nicholson
(2B), Gerry' Feeney (c), Gary
Eisler (P), Dennis Campbell
(1B) , Bill O'Shea (3B), Kevin
Bennett (S.S.), Bill Salisbury
(CF), Dwayne Cornish (RF),
and Gary Phillips (LF). John
Elligsen relieved Bill Salisbury
in the eighth, John Leeming for

After-What seemed to be a
clearing evening, a sudden down-
pour on June 20 brought a delayed
game decision between Bonnie
Bedard's team and Marion pull-
man's team.
On Wed. June 27th, Barb Os-:r
borne's team met Joan Hilde-
brand's team at the Optimist
park. Barb's team had their new
gold green sweater's which added -
a spark to the ,action. Joan
Pinder leaped in the air to make
a good catch. At the top of the
