HE'S FULL OF ENERGY
You might guess from Jerry's expression that he 1s a
lively boy and indeed he is.
Jerry is alert, active 'and constantly on the go. Just now
he is on mild medication to quiet him down a little. This lad
has too much energy to sit down with a book but he will Watch
a few favorite television programs.
Jerry is in Grade Two and is felt to have average ability.
He is not workingupto his potential, however - perhaps because
he is so active.
Tall and slightly built, eight-year-old Jerry has blue eyes,
blonde it and fair skin. Information on his background is
limited but he is probably Anglo-Saxon..
Jerry's foster home is in the country where he loves the
carefree 1Lfe_and the, open spaces. He is good friends with dogs
and cats and-is fond of hunting for frogs and snakes or whatever
other small'creatures he can find,
Since Jerry is accustomed to children of all ages, he; can fit
into a family wherdue will have brothers and sisters. However,
the Children's Aid Society hopes there will not be many other
children in his adoptiorf home so Jerry will get an abund, ance of
attention.
To inquire about adopting Jerry, please write to Today's
Child, Box 888, Station K, Toronto MO 2H2.

kinds of smoking?
The latest government survey
concluded that about 30 percent
of university students in this
country are marijuana smokers.
Other surveys have found higher
percentages and also indicated
Increasing' rates among high

have suggested a direct corre-
lation between smoking hashish,
which is a stronger substance-
than ' marijuana, and chronic
bronchitis.
A recent study of 31American
soldiers found that most of the
men developed symptoms of lung
trouble after smoking hashish re-
gularly for three to four-month
Nine men developed 'severe
shortness Of breath and coughed
up mucus, which indicated dis-
tress in the, ower .respiratory
tract.- —
According to Dr—Albert Haas
at the New York University
Medical Center, these findings
may have important implicationS'
for the long-term effects of mari-
juana smoking. In his own pilot.
studies with people smoking pot,
Dr. Haas found that some sub-'
jects developed similar symp-
toms as hashish smokers:, sore
throats, hoarseness, and trouble
in the -upper respiratory area.
He also found marked differences
between the effects of smoking
cigarettes and marijuana. Ciga-
rette smoking. narrows the air
passages in, the lungs, while pot
smoking appears to expand those
passages.
It will take years to amass
the facts about smoking mari-
juana. But the facts about ciga-
rette sn-soking are available right.,,
now. Get them from your local
TB-RD association.
