There are 19 girls enrolled in “SportsWear From Knits". Officers elected were: Presi- dent, Joanne Ross; Vice President, Teresa Miller; Sec- retary, Helen Smale; Assistant Secretary, Elizabeth Templeman Telephone girls, Ruth Chappel and Susan Norris; Record and Book cover committee; Kim Eaton, Susan Norris, Ruth Har- burn and Teresa Miller. Club colours were chosen and are pink and blue. The club name chosen is "Staffa Knitwits." Club leaders are Mrs. Bill Butson and Mrs. Spencer Jef- fery who discussed require- ments for the club. Staffa Knitwits met at the home of leader Mrs. Butson on S'attirday morning with al119 girls in attendance. Mrs. Hutson dis- cussed fabrics and the different types of knits, followed by a .talk on fibres of knits, given Classified Ads pay, dividends. Devotional Exercises were taken this week by Rev. A.A. Horst of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Brodhagen. He took his text from St. Matthew and spoke on the parable of the labourers in the vineyard who all received "the same pay. The wages of sin is death but God's gift to us all is eternal life and those who have worked for his king- dom shall receive this gift as will those who have only worked in the twilight of life. As an example he said the thief on the cross, was ,promised a life--in. Paradise by Jesus himself. Our sincerest sympathy goes out to Mrs. G. Rettie R.N. who was bereaved this week when her sister of Parry Sound passed away suddenly. We were indeed pleased when Mrs. Shirley Coleman brought her 2 month old "bundle of joy" Karen Marie to visit us this week. Shirley was a former member of the staff. by Mrs. Jeffery. Present for the presentation was Ernie Hovey, president of the Hayfield Lions Club, Tim Elliott, presi dent of the Goderich Lions Club, Gary Thompson, presi- dent of the Grand Bend Lions Club, Mrs, Arthur Brisson, president of the Ladies' Auxiliary to the Rest Home and Robert Westlake, - preW.dent of Abe Zurich Lions Club, Exeter Lions Club also donated towards the purchase of the bus. - - Zurich Lions Club members joined the Bayfield Lions Club at dinner on Tuesday evening and presented Hayfield Lions with Zurich Lions club pins. The special occasion was the 25th birthday party of the Hayfield Club. According to the Blyth Standard the 13lyth Board of Trade moved Monday night to co-operate with the Blyth Agricultural Society in trying to find a replacement for the Blyth Fall Fair. - - - Sparks from a torch being used to thaw pipes in sub-zero weather at the home of Martians Bakker, R.R.3, Auburn, caused a fire which destroyed the farm home. The Blyth fire brigade had difficulty in the sub- zero weather and the fire spread so rapidly practically nothing could be saved. The Mitchell Advocate reports that Perth County council has approved a grant of $40,000 over a two year period towards the construction of Ritz Lutheran Villa, the home for senior citizens to be located just north of town on Highway 23. It will be paid over two years, $20,000 in 19'73 and the same amount in 1974. - - - Mr. Louis Seebeck marked his 90th birthday at the home of his son Earl in town when an open.hpuse was held on Sunday. He received two birthday cakes, one from his family, the other from his grandchildren. Mr. Seebeck is enjoying good health. - - - Mr. and Mrs. Ormond C. MacDougald marked their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday. Among the guests were William Walker, Guelph, who acted as best man and Mrs. Helen Trimble, who was also in the wedding party. The Teeswater News reports,that Mr. and Mrs. Joseph A . Voisin of Formosa were guests of honor at a surprise anniversary dinner at the home of their son and daughter- in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Magnus Voisin, on the occasion of their 55th wedding anniversary. The total is now, according to The Lucknow Sentinel, some $26,991 towards the local swimming pool fund, as the Lucknow fire department donated $500 for the project. - - - Gerald Kerr heads the West Wawanosh Mutual Fire Insurance Company meeting of directors. He succeeds Charles Anderson. Six directors now serve West Wawan- osh Mutual. - - - Ashfield Township has purchased a new tractor for $8,190 and have decided against participating in the Ripley Fire Area. - - - J. R. (Cliff) Murray, West Wawanosh Township, has sold his 100 acre farm on Conces- sion 9 to Mr. and Mrs. John Shetler of Sterling. Their son Donald Murray, Concession 8, West Wawanosh Township sold 'his 150 acre farm to Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Stutzman of Norwich. The original "home farm" was taken up front the crown in 1851 by their grandfather, Robert Murray. He is making a satisfactory recovery. - - - Ted Elliott, Zone Commander of the Royal Canadian Legion had the priviledge of presenting The W Ingham Advanee=Tim es Tropy to the first place winner in the junior secondary school division at the public speaking contest in the Legion Hall on Saturday. The winner, Ted's daughter, Fernie Elliott, who attends F. E. Madill School in Wingham. According to the Goderich Signal-Star, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Raynard, Goderich, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, Thursday. The Clinton News-Record reports that the Kinsmen Club has already received the racing dates.
