They stopped at Hawaii for two days and took a boat trip through Pearl Harbour and saw the destroyed boats of U.S.A. which were attacked by the Japanese Air Force on the morning of Dec. 7, 1941. The. destroyed navy boats are still lying overturned in the Harbour. Then they flew to Sydney, the Capital city of Australia and took tours of that beautiful city for two days, then flew inland to Dubbo where they were met by Wm. Hills of Mitchell, who operates a large Bean Industry in Australia. Australia is a beautiful country with a ridgepf mountains close to the coast of the Paci- fic Ocean which makes it a great tourist attraction for swimming in the salty waters. Water surf- ing is a great sport also. There are plenty of Motels built on high sites of the mountain which give SCHOOL BAGS Just the thing to bring homework home in Reg. 1.99 2/2.00 24. November to February is their summertime with tempera- tures from 90 to 106 'degrees. It is a dry country at times and they have not, had any rain for three 'years. They have to depend on irrigation from the rivers which flow inland from the mountains to inland lakes. The farms are supplied with water by small canals on every farm. The principal crops grown are cotton, Beans, Corn and Wheat also vegetables orange and grape fields are plentiful. After Tom and Mervin landed there it started to rain, the first in three years and when -it does rain in Australia it pours down as much as seven inches in one night and floods the country which is very flat. The sheep and cattle have to find high ground to survive. Sheep raising is a big busi- ness in Australia and also cattle. Wm. They travelled about two thou- sand miles by car and spent five days at Port Macquare which is a summer resort on the ocean side. After one month in Australia they' decided to return home to Dublin. Tom said he would stay longer but Mervin was anxious to get home to his wife, Norma. It took them twenty-nine flying hours to return to London the twelve thousand miles. The whole trip there and back was about twenty-five thousand miles. They enjoyed flying very much especially on the Big Jumbo Jet.
