The win puts the Kings in sole possession of first place, one point ahead of the Stars with only two games remaining in the schedule. • Jim Henderson opened the scoring for the Stars only to have Dale Kennedy tie the score. The Stars then got goals from Brian Leonhardt and Jack Ungarian to take a three to one lead after the first period. The final period was all Kings as Steve Eckert and Ray Devereaux scored to tie it at three all and set the stage for Groothius' winner. Five 'minor penalties were Y.13.C. YOUNG ADULT INTERTOWN Standings to Date: Goderich Junior Farmers Huron Junior Farmers met recently in the OMAF office at Clinton when business was con- ducted by president, Faye Ribey. • Minutes were read by Gwen Bos- man and Jim Nixon gave the treasurer's report. A proposal by Keith William- * son and Jim Nixon to pay $25. membership fee to the Huron County Federation of Agriculture was approved. Committees were appointed for the organization of events during the year. Len MacGre- gor explained an exchange be- tween Huron and a county in Michigan which would take place in July. Keith Williamson, provincial Director, reported on upcoming events. - Zone Competitions will be held February 17th at Wingham. - The Western Fair Association is holding its Farm Show Queen Competitions On Friday, March 2nd. - Trips are being offered to Alberta, Manitoba, Prince Ed- ward Island and Indiana. Ap- plicants are to be interviewed on February 17th at Wingham. - An exchange trip for one to New Zealand and Australia will take place from early January * to early May of 1974. called In the close-checking cone test with the Stars picking up three of them. In the early game the Blues won their second game of the- season as they blanked the third place Flyers 3-0. Gary Mont- gomery turned in a solid per- formance in the Blues nets as the shutout was his first since en- tering the League two seasons ago. Ken Wright fired two goals for the Blues with Don Jeffer- son scoring the other. The Blues picked up three of the four minor penalties called by Referees Muir and Broome. Coleman 1422, R. Wood 1276. (Hy Keith Murray) LOSE TO EXETER Seaforth Midgets were downed •by the Exeter Midgets in an ex- hibition game played onFebruary 8. In a good, well refereed game, Seaforth received 3 of the 5 minor penalties assessed. ' Exeter started very fast, and Seaforth could never really get untracked in the game. Exeter scored all their goals in the first period. First, Brian Taylor scored from Wayne Re- geir - then Larry McDonald scored with assists going to Brian Taylor and Steve Pfaff. John Vreise finished out the scor- ing for Exeter in the period, connecting from Brad Roelson. Seaforth got their lone goal in the game when Dave McClure scored at the 6:54 mark from Brian Lane and Barry Lane. Neither teams scored in the final period. Final Score; Exe- ter 3 Seaforth 1. SEAFORTH TRIUMPHS OVER CLINTON ' In a game played at Seaforth Arena on February 10, the Sea- forth Midgets squeezed past the Clinton Midgets 3-2. Of the 32 minutes in minor penalties assessed in the game, Seaforth received 18. There was also a fight in which both teams' players tangled and received a 5-minute major penalty. There was also a 10-minute misconduct and game misconduct received by one of the players on the Seaforth squad. This was a Clinton home game, and due to the circum- stances of the' winter carnival being held at the name time, the pine was shifted to Seaforth and ,two Clinton referees handed out the penalties in the game., It was a tight, closely played game with both teams turning out excellent performances. At the 12;55 mark of the first period, Buttler scored Aor Clinton from Graham and Cook.. Seaforth evened the score then with Brian. Lane scoring from Dwayne Cornish. - In the second period, Clinton broke 'the- deadlock with Heipel scoring from MacDonald. Brian Murray then scored what proved to be the tieing goal, unassisted. This put a real spark of incen- tive into the Seaforth team to get them gang in the game. In the last period with both offenses going strong, the two teams received excellent goal- keeping, with Rity Hutchinson ten- ding the nets for Seaforth and Dean Ryan doing the chores for Clinton. Each goalkeeper made several big saves on numerous scoring chances, and kept the score low and close. With 33 seconds left, and the teams tied at 2-2 there was a scramble in front of the net. Danny Nolan dug the puck loose and flipped. it over the fallen Clinton goal- keeper, Ryan. The assists on the goal went to Dwayne Cornish' and, Bill O'shea. Clinton pressed to - even. the score in the remain- ing feW seconds, but failed. Final Score - Seaforth 3, Clinton 2. SEAFORTH'S RECORD The elinton game was a key win for the chances of an unde- feated season as they have only one more game, against Hensall in the near future. They will also have a return exhibition match soon 'at home against Exe- ter. These will be the last games before the playoffs. GOdd fan support is always appreciated by the players and management.,. Get out and cheer the locals on to victory. Mr. Edward LeddY Is ill with flu and his sister Miss Mary of Goderich is caring for him. The home of the Late Mason MacAllister of Dungannon has been sold to Mr. and Mrs. Jones and family of Lucknow who moved last Tlaarsday. They intend con- tinuing their business in Luck- now. Mrs. Jas. Phelan has been in Clinton hospital for the last week. Mrs. Cyril' Boyle spent the week- end with her in Blyth. A reception was held in Au- burn,,, Friday night, for Mr. and Mrs. Dennis, Hallamjnewlyweds. Boyd's orchestra furnished music for dancing. People were shocked Thurs- day morning to hear of the pass- ing of Frank Jewel and his sis- ter who were killed in a car accident north of Lucan while coming from London Wednesday evening. Seaforth came back with two goals in the, second period, Mur- ray Henderson, imassieted at the 16:15 mark and,Henderson again, assisted by Jack McLlwain at the 18;05 mark. Jim Farrish scored unassisted- at the 18;15 mark making it a 2-2 tie. In the third period Bill Mc- Laughlin scored the lone Sea- forth goal at the 4:23 mark.T'om Crawford and Dirk Walterbeek scored for the Sailors. GODERICH 7 - SEAFORTH 2 Goderich Sailors defeated the' Seaforth Beavers 7-2 in the open- ing game of the playoffs Sunday afternoon in Goderich. The series continues Friday night •in Goderich at 8:30 with the fourth game in Seaforth Sat- urday night at 8:00 The fifth game, if necessary is scheduled for Goderich on February 23. Sixth game is back in Seaforth Sunday, Feb. 25 at 2 o'clock with the seventh game scheduled for Goderich on March 2 at IMO. This picture, taken perhaps fifty years ago, shows a horse class lined up ready for judging in front of what now is the Box Furniture Store. At the time the picture was taken the stores to the right were occupied by H. B. Edge Hardware. Trapnell Bakery is in the R. H. Peck and Co. store to the left.
