Mrs. Joseph Kale •, Mr. and Mrs. William Albert, Linda, Ann, Denise and Joanne spent a week during the holidays at Nashville, Tenessee, and other points of interest. • Tom Ducharme of Thunder Bay visited his mother, Mrs. Mary Ducharrne. Mrs. Ducharme returned with him to Thunder Bay for a visit. They left by plane from Melton on Saturday. The open air rink at St. Columban is in perfect con- dition these days, and both chil- dren and grownups are making good use of it. Gordon Moylan arrived home from Europe on Friday, and is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Moylan. NEWS OF Crorroarty Correspondent Mrs. Ken McKellar Cromarty Ladies' Aid have decided to again make layettes for t:,e Unitarian Services Com- mittee. The decision was taken at a meeting held at the home of the .president, Mrs. John Miller. The layettes, each con- sisting of 4. large diapers, 2 shirts, 2 jackets, 1 towel and washcloth, 1 receiving blanket, 2 nighties, 1 bar laundry soap, and 4 safety pins, will be turned in at the March meeting. Mrs. Miller opened the 'meeting with- a reading, "What Is Year?" The scripture, Acts • 10, ,was read by Mrs. Robert Laing and Mrs. Carey led in prayer. Seven members an= swered , the roll call by paying of fees and the naming of, their winter projects. Included were quilting, knitting, upholstery, macrame, and sewing. Mrs. John Templman read the secretary's report andthe treasurer's report was read by the assistant, Mrs. Mervin Dow. It was decided to sponsor a Stanley Party early in February. Crornarty BOy Scouts enjoyed a hike to the mountain Saturday morning. They were ac- companied by scoutmaster Wil- fred Jarvis and his assistant, David Laing, who helped them to build a fire and cook their dinner. low 'TIN:11E 'r „MCP"' The inaugural meeting of Hibbert council was held on Jan- uary 4th, Rev. A. Daynard opened the meeting with a prayer and readings from the Old and New Testaments-. He Spoke briefly to Council., pointing out'the vast difference in Municipal Govern- ment today and twenty years ago, and that Councillors must be dedicated men. Reeve • Ross McPhail. wel- comed the two new Councillors, Darwin Lannin and Ivan Norris and explained briefly the ,functioning o the, Council and hoped that theta-would soon ""see daylight". Council meetings will be the first Monday of each month, The months of December, January and February and March com- mence at 1 p.m., the remainder of the year at 8 p.m. All meet- ings are at the Township Hall, gaffe. The hourly rate for operators was set at $2.85 per hour, and for help on road work $2.60. ' salary for Reeve $400 plus $125.00 allowance. For Deputy Reeve and Councillors $2715. and allowance, $100. Cliff Norman was authorized tO"sand and treat the Hall floor, and Road Vouchers in the amount of $1938.41 were issued. At a special- meeting on the following Monday, a grant of $75 was made to the Salvation Army. The date for the February meeting was changed to the 9th to permit council to attend the Rural Municipalities Convention in Hamilton. A large gathering at- tended, and after cards and a buffet lunch, Reeve McPhail pre- sented each retiring member with a suitably inscribed barometer. - Both spoke briefly, and wished every success to the incoming Council, and the two new mem- bers in particular. Mr. Miller apologia ed for his wife's absence, and said she had only returned home from the Hospital the pre- vious day, and hadn't fully re- covered her strength.
