The basement of the United
Church was decorated in a
Christmas setting when the Wal-
ton Unit held their annual Christ-
mas Party on Wednesday evening,
There were 35 who sat down to
a smorgasbord supper prepared
by the losing side of the copper
contest.
Following the supper Christ-
mas Carols were sung accom-
panied by Mrs. Bill Humphries
at the piano. Mrs. Walter Bew-
ley read aChristmas poem, "The
Christ Child Comes Once More",
followed by prayer.
Several games of CourtWhist
were enjoyed with Mrs. Bill
Thamer winning the prize for the
most points and Mrs. Ian Wilbee
was low lady. Mrs. Rae Hugther
extended a vote of thanks to Mrs.
Nelson Marks and the losing
side of the copper contest for
preparing such a pleasant
evening. -Boxes were packed for
several shut-ins. Jingle Bells
was sung and Santa arrived dis-
tributing gifts to everyone.
McKillop Unit
The December meeting of the
McKillop Unit of the U.C.W. was..
held at the home of Mrs. Murray
Dennis. The losing side of the
copper contest serving dinner,
the dessert being supplied by the
losing side.
The devotions were in charge
of Mrs. George Love Sr. opening
by singing Christmas Carols.
Mrs. George Love Jr. read the
Scripture from Matthew 2:1 - 12.
followed with Mrs. Love Sr.
giving the Meditation.
' Mrs. Don Dennis had the
topic giving the old traditional
Christamas Story. Christmas
Carols were sung with Mrs.
Laverne Godkin as pianist,
followed by Mrs. G.Love Sr.
leading in prayer.
Mrs. John Burch the presi-
dent, presided for the business
part of the meeting, opening with
a reading, " Special Treat".
Minutes of the last meeting were
read by the secretary, Mrs.
Glen McNichol. Rbll Call was
taken with 14 members present,
and was answered by a Christ-
mas Tradition. Collection was
taken by Mrs. Keith Rock and
dedicated by Mrs. John Burch.
Christmas treats are to be sent
to shut-ins.
Christmas Gifts were ex-
changed among the members.
8th and 16th Unit
Units meet
Mrs. Alvin McDonald was
hostess for the December mee-
ting of the' 8th and 16th Unit
when the copper contest supper
was held on Wednesday evening,
December 13.
Following a delicious supper,
Mrs. A. McDonald opened the
devotional period with the call
to Worship. Hymn, "Hark the
Herald Angels Sing" was sung
followed by prayer. The Scrip-
ture reading from Luke 2: 7-14
wad given by Mrs. Don Fraser.
A Rex Humbard record was
played, everyone joining in to
sing"Joy to the World". Mrs.
Ken McDonald led in Prayer.
The C hristmas Carol, "Silent
Night" was sung. Mrs. Ken
McDonald lad in a Christmas
Quiz, followed by a poem,
"Christmas Blessings".
Mrs. Don McDonald conducted
the business period. Names were
chosen for the copper contest
for the coming year. The minutes
were read by the secretary, Mrs.
George McCall. The roll call
was answered by 12 members.
Mrs. Rae Houston gave the
treasurer's report and received
the regular offering.
17th and Boundary Unit
The Christmas meeting of the
17 th and Boundary was held at
the honie of Mrs. Jan Van Vliet
Sr. on Monday evening, December
11th. Mrs. Clifford Hoegy opened
the dPvetions with the thought for
the day, followed by prayer.
Christmas CarolS, "Joy to the
Worldu ,itit Came Upon the Mid-
night Clear", "The First Noel",
and "Silent Night',' were sung,
with Mrs. M. Baan at the piano.
Mrs. Hoegy read the scripture
from Matthew2;17-25 followed by
prayer and a poem, "Time for
Giving".
"What Christmas Means"
was the Topic chosen by Mrs.
Herb Williamson. Mrs. Ross
Bennett read the story of Christ-
mas', "He Visited Me Not". The
minutes were read by Mrs. John
Bos, correspondence and Thank
You cards were read. Thirteen
members answered the roll call.
It was passed that Mrs. Martin
Baan be the President for the
coming year, Vice-President,
Mrs. ROy Williamson, Secretary,
. Mrs. Harold McCallum.
Next meeting to be at Mrs.
H. Williamson's home with Mrs.
H. Craig and Mrs. Ross Bennett
in charge.
"While Shepherds Watch their
Flocks"was the closing hymn,
followed by lunch served by Mrs.
C. Hoegy and Mrs. H, Williamson.
Shower for Bride of the Month
Miss Betty Mason was guest
of honor at a miscellaneous
shower on Tuesday evening in
the Anglican Church, Brussels.
Contest's were enjoyed duringthe
evening.
Betty, her mother, Mrs.
Eleanor Mason, and the groom's
aunt, Mrs. Allan McCall were
seated on the decorated chairs
at the front. Miss Debbie Kef-
fer read an -address Of Best Wishes and gifts were presented
to the bride-019d by Debbie
small, Judy White and Beth-Mc-
Cauley. Betty replied thanking,
everyone for the lovely gifts.
A bride's book made by Judy
White was paSsed around during
lunch. which was arranged by
Mrs. Frank Alcock and Mrs.
Ray White and served by several
girl friends.
Brucefield
Correspondent
Mrs. Hugh Berry
Mr. and Mrs. Barry Lyndon
Toronto spent the week end with 9,
Mrs. W. Haugh and family. Mrs.
Haugh is leaving on Friday to
spend Christmas in Toronto
with her daughter.
Mr. Wm. Scott Seaforth Manor,
spent Sunday at his home in
Brucefield.
Mrs. Ross Scott received
word that her brother Mr. J.
Rattenbury of Burlington passed
away. Mr. and Mrs. R. Scott
attended the funeral on Monday.
Mrs. Elsie Forrest and Miss
Margaret McQueen are leaving
Brucefield shortly to reside in
Clinton.
Due to the snow storm, the
attendance at Brucefield Church
on Sunday was small.
WMS
First Presbyterian Church ,
W.M.S. met Thursday with an
attendance of 20.
The president opened the
meeting with, prayer and a few
verses of "What Shall I Ask for
the Coming Year".
The secretary's report was
given by Mrs. Harold Agar, Mrs.
Van RooiYen reported a success-
ful year for 1972.
Mrs. Jas. Keyes had charge
of the programme and read a
Christmas Story. "The Star Still
Shines". Mrs. Frank Kling sang
"Star of the East" accompanied
by Mrs. Robert McMillan. The
Scripture was taken from the
2nd chapter of St. Luke (1-20)
read in unison and Miss Jennie
Hogg led in prayer. Mrs. Verne
Dale, Mrs. Jean Cairns; Mrs.
Sam McClure and Mrs. Harold
Agar helped Mrs. Keyes with the
different readings.

FUNERAL
D'ARCY DOCKING '
D'Arcy Docking, 62, of RR 2,
Staffa, died in the Rehabilitation
and Extended Care Unit of Strat-
ford General Hospital on Satur-
day.
Mr. Docking was born in Hib-
bert Township, a son of the, late
Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Docking.
Surviving are:a brother Lyle
of Hibbert Township; sisters,
Mrs. Wilbert (Marie) Channel
of Usborne Township, Mrs. Les-
lie (Doris) Waddell of Hibbert 0
Township.
Funeral service was held Mon-
day afternobn at 2 p.m. at the
Heath-Leslie funeral home in
Mitchell. Rev. Grant Mills offic-
iated, and burial was in Wood-
land cemetery, Mitchell.
