DAY IN SEAFORTH Last Saturday, November the 11th, members of Branch 156 • Royal Candian Legion observed Remembrance Day together with members .of the Ladies Auxiliary and many other citizens. The parade fell, in at the Legion Hall at 10:30 a.m. and marched to the Cenotaph led by the Sealorth District High e School band under the direction of Mr. George Hildebrand. The Remembrance Day ser-1 vice was conducted by Comrade President Gordon Scott, Rev. T. E. Hancock, the Rev. H. J. Laragh, Rev. Dwight Patterson, Rev., M. E. Reuber and Rev. o T. C. Mulholland. Wreaths were placed by the representatives of the following organizations; Province of Ont- ario, Town of Seaforth, Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 156, Township of McKillop, Town- ship of Tuckersmith, St. Thomas • Anglican Church, First Presby- terian Church, Seaforth District, High School, Seaforth Lions Club, St. James' School, Eastern Star, L.O.B.A., Independent Order of Oddfellows, Britannia Lodge No. 170, L.O.L. No. '793, Knights of Columbus, Genesco of Canada 10 ' Ltd., Maple Leaf Dairy, Egmonci- ville Rover Troop, Seaforth Fire Brigade, Seaforth .P.U.C., Sea- forth Optimist Club, L.C.B.O., and U.D.C.O. While the Veterans placed their poppies on the Cenotaph and paid their respects, Com- rade Gordon Scott read the names of those who had giventheir lives in both World Wars, and of the Veterans who had passed on since the war inSeaforth and surround- ing area. Trophies were presented to the League Champions - Captain Sarah Wagler and her teammates Mrs. Joe Smith, Mrs. Arthur Horst, Elaine Wickie, Mrs. Ervin Schwindt and Mrs. Reuben Rapien. The George Diegel trophy went to Mrs. E ry in Schwindt (high average 177). Other prizes went to' Jack Burchill (men's high average 170); Mrs. Dave Wickie (high ladies/ single 22'7); Harold Elligsen (Men's high single 245); Low scorers were Joe Smith and Mrs. Louis McIntyre. Mr. and Mrs. August Scher- barth showed ..slides from Weir trip to Europe. Mr. and Mrs. William Jacobs, Waterloo, visited Mr. and Mrs. Manuel Beuerman on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Wieter- sen attended the funeral of the Edelweiss lodge meets The past grand club of Edel- weiss Rebekah Lodge met at the home of" Mrs. Marion Rose with 16 members present. Mrs. Mar: garet .Messenger president, opened the 'meeting with two poems "A Housewifes Prayer" and " My Washing Machine ". Mrs. Mae Habkirk offered her home for the January meeting. Mrs. Annie Harrison read a poem Canada Thank You. The presi- dent closed the meeting and a soc- ial evening was spent with four tables, of court whist. Winners were High, Mrs. Janet Baker,' Low Mrs. Lillian Grummett, who also won the lucky Cup. Lunch was served by Mrs. Marian Rose and Mrs. Ethel Boyce as hostesses. Mr. and Mrs.,Melville Blood of St. Clair, Mich., spent a few days last week with Mrs., Mary, Ryan and Alice and other relatives and friends. Mr. George Goettler is patient in Seaforth Community Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Looby have returned from a trip to Kentucky and otherplaces of in- terest in the U.S. Visitors on the week end with Mr. and Mrs. Dan Costello were Mr.. and Mrs. Bill Costello and family, Betty Ann, Billy*, Kathy and Sharon, all of Camp Borden. Seaforth songs, accompanied on the piano by Comrade Bob Spittal, some reminisced and others visited other Branches in the Zone. Brussels, Goderich, Myth, Clin- ton and Mitchell were, among the Branches visited. The Legion Brass band from Mitchell visited Seaforth and played, a number of selections, much to the delight of the Sea- forth members. During the evening a Pot Luck supper was served, followed by the showing of a film entitled "Beyond the Beaches". Much credit should go to Comrade -Dick Eisler, Special Events Chairman for obtaining this splendid film, also to Comrade Dick Whiteleyt.for obtaining the projector which he operated. At the dance that followed, members and their wives enjoyed the music of the Country Cavaliers. PAST EVENTS •Exiday Nov. 10th, Bingo at- tracted seventy-two 'players. Prizes to the value of $310.00 were won. Saturday Nov. 11th - Remem- brance Day parade and service was held, followed by a Pot Luck Slipper in the evening and the showing of a film. The evehing concluded with a dance. Sunday Nov. 12th - Members of Branch ,156, together with members of the Clinton Branch attended the Brucefield Memorial Dedication service at the Bruce- field United Church. CROMARTY Correspondent Mrs. Ken McKellar The Women's Missionary Society of C,romarty church met at the home of Mrs. Mervin Dow with Mrs. Charles Douglas presiding and who opened the meeting with a suitable poem. Scripture from Leviticus 27 was read in unison and Mrs. T. L. Scott read the 91st Psalm. Mrs. Dow led in prayer. The offering was received and was dedicated by Mrs. Douglas The roll call topic "Tithing" was answered by eight members Two Visitors were present. Mrs. Calder McKaig read a short art- icle on Tithing including a poem "Lord Open My Mine". The secretary gave her report and a gratifying report was give-ri by the treasurer, Mrs. Lamond who also gave highlights of the Sectional meeting at-- Avonton church. Mrs. McKaig reported 21 visits and 18 cards sent to the sick. Mrs. K. McKellar read an article on "Gratitude" followed with a prayer. The meeting closed with a hymn and the Lord's prayer. It was decided to collect $3.00 per person in place of a fall bake sale. Card parties will com- mence after Christmas. Christmas cards will be sold with Mrs. Franken in charge. Mrs. Cyril Boyle reed minutes of last meeting and Mrs. Jerry Van Aaken the roll call. Mrs. Bill Kinahan reported a get well card sent and a gift given to Mr. and Mrs. ConForan newly weds. C.W.L. meets The regular monthly meet- ing of St. James C.W.L. was held Tues. evening Nov. 7 with Pres. Mrs. Alvin Smale presid- ing. Mrs. John Maloney gave a Spiritual reading and reports were given by various com- mittees. Donations were set aside for the Veteran's Xmas Fund, Our Adopted Grandfather and The Dioceson Reserve Fund. Arrangements were dis- cussed for the upcoming bazaar Nov. 25th, and interesting ideas exchanged. Rev. Fr. Laragh expressed thoughts on Woman Power and mentioned discrimination against women in general, and suggested strongly that a man treat a women as a woman or he is not a man, She should not be subject to a Iran, be complement him. He - stressed the, Power of Woman in forming a child to become a man or woman.
