The •Huron-Perth Separate
School Football League is now
playing intra-mural competition
or exhibitionigames at noon hour
with nearby school's in prepara-
tion for the upcoming schedule.
The season Is divided into
three parts. House Leagues
within the individual schools is
the first stage followed by inter-
school competitions and finally
inter-zone playoffs to the Huron-
Perth championship.
Players are divided into len*
for and Junior leagues. The sen-
iors are composed ofGrade 7 and
8 boys. The Juniors are made
up of boys from Grades 4, 5,,
and 6.
The idea of the organization
is to get the elementary school
students intereSted in football
so they can keep physically fit
and prepare themselves for the,
secondary school level.

The Turf Club proved the
superior team when they whipped
Mainstreet 15 - 5 in the final
game last Tuesday night to win
— the championship. The game
should have been closer but sev-
eral costly errors allowed the
Hosemen to score almost at will.
Mainstreet opened with 3 runs
in the first inning but from then
on it was all Turf as they con-
tinued to add up the runs. Don
Mulder and Dale Kennedy hit
solo home runs for the Turf.
Jack McIlwain went the distance
for the Turf who played a strong
defensive zatmeommitting only
two miscues, and completed two
double plays to kill scoring
threats. Mainstreet failed to
help Jack Price when they com-
mitted nine errors almost all
of which resulted in opposition
scoring.

TURFS DROP GAME
The Turf Club dropped their
first game Thursday evening
when the Mainstreet squad even-
ed the final series_ at one game
a piece with a surprising 9 - 4
victory.
The game opened with the Turf
Club leaving the bases loaded
and failing to score. Joe Dick
opened with a walk followed by
Jim Dick who 'reached first on
a hit pitch. Jack McIlwain then
reached on an error loading the
bases with none out. Mainstreet
then cut off the runs by forcing
the runner at home throb times
in a row to retire the side.
Mainstreet counted,twice as
Bill Robert on walked Ray An-
stett doubled and Bill Pinder
drove in both 'runs with a single
to give the Mainstreeters a quick
2 - 0 lead. The Turf came
back in the second inning when
Mainstreet committed three
costly errors allowing the. Turf,
to score four runs on only one
hit by Jack Mcllwaln. Main-,
street failed to score in their
half of the inning to leave the
Turf ahead by a 4-2 count. The
• third inning was scoreless as
both teams left oneman On base.
In the fourth inning one the
Turf- again was held scoreless
with Mainstreet narrowing the
margin to 1 run when three
singlA and a walk accounted for
their run. Mainstreet held the
Turf Club scoreless for the re-
mainder taking the lead in the
fifth when they counted twice
on Brian Flanigan's home run
and singles by Bill Robert on and

The Turf won the opening

a narrow 6. - 3 margin. Main-
street threatened in the first in-
ning when Ray Anstett led 'off
with a triple and Bob Beutenmil-
ler had a one out single but both
were left stranded as they failed
to score. The Turf failed to
mount any real threat in the first
`when Joe , Dick walked but
couldn't advance as the next
three batters were retired in
order. The second inning again
saw Mainstreet get the first two
batters on base as Bill Pinder
singled and Wayne Ellis walked
but neither was able to score as
the next two batters struck out
and Anstett grounded out to re-
tire the side.
The Turf loaded the base,,
with none out in their half of the
inning on singles by FergMcKel-
lar and Don Kunder and a hit bat--
ter however, 'McKellar was tag-
ged out trying to steal home and
_the_ next two --batters-grounded
out to retire the side 1eaving the
game scoreless after two innings.
The third inning was again
scoreless for Mainstreet • as
Brian Flanigan managed the only
hit but failed to score. The Turf
Club then broke the scoreless tie
as they scored on singles by Joe
Dick and Don Kunder and two
costly errors by the Mainstreet-
ers giving the Turf a 2 - (Mead
after 3 full innings. The fourth
again saw Bill Pinder ,fed off
with a single followed by a walk
to Ellis and again fail to get home
as the Turf tightgeled up. The
Turf added a single,run to their
total as two errors allowed Bill
Strong to score on. a single to
give the Turf a 3" - 0 lead.
The fifth inning saw Mainstreet
finally hit the scoreboard as
Brian Flan igan singled and Bill
Roberton hit a home 'run giving,
the Mainstreeters .2 runs. The4
Turf recovered in their half of
the fifth as singles brJack Me-
Llwain, Ferg McKellar and Don
Kunder gave the Turf 2 runs to
- giye them a 5 2 lead. Main-
street again left` two men on base
in the sixth as Ray Anstett and
Gord Beuttenmiller singled but
failed to score. The Turf then
completed their, scoring a single
run on singles by Ken McLlwain
and Paul McKellar and a double
by Jack McLlwain. 'In their last
effort the Mainstreeters added
a single run on two Doubles by
Bill Roberton and Bill Pinder,
teaVing the Turf with a 6 - 3
victory. ,
Jask McLlwain was the win-
ning pitcher allowing only eleven
scattered hits and only giving up
three walks . Jack Price allowed
ten hits and gave up only one'
walk. The big margin of differ-
ence was errors as the Tutf Club
played errorless baseball while
the Mainstreeters made five mis-
cues costing' them the game.
