Tuckersmith endorses Clinton
bid for inquiry into justice
Featuring the largest entry in years the Watch Tournament
sponsored by the Seaforth Lawn Bowling Club on Monday
attracted bowlers from across this part of Ontario.. All of the

Mrs. Mcquaig has one
daughter, Mrs. Marjorie Powell
of Seaforth, a niece Grace Kraute
of Toronto. There are three
grandchildren and five great-
grandchildren.
Mrs. McCuaig is in good
health and maintains a cheery
and optomistic outlook.
Recalling her ninety years
she said, that life had had more
ups than downs.
Friends and relatives join-
ed Saturday in celebrating with
Miss Isabelle McClure her 100th
birthday.
A patient at Kilbarchan Nur-
sing Home in Seaforth since 1965
Miss McClure is in reason-
ably good health. She is able
to read her newspaper without
the aid of glasses.
Looking down at her hands
Miss McClure said, "They are
a hundred years old and they hare
made thousands of pies."
Miss McClure was born Sept.
2, 1872, in McKillop Town-
ship on the 4th concession. on
the farm now occupied by a
nephew, Nelson McClure. Her
parents, the late George Mc-
Clure and Sarah Torrance, after
purchasing the farm from the
Canada Company, cleared the
land and raised their family of
five sons and six daughters. Miss
McClure is the only surviving
member.
Moving to Seaforth in 1912,
Miss McClure nursed her invalid
sister, the late Rebecca Mc-
Council endorsed the Clinton
resolution to the Attorney Gen-
eral of Ontario to investigate
administration of justice in Hur-
on County.

Two dead, six in hos
in weekend area crashes

A native of the Walton area
Mrs. Angus McCuaig celebrated
her 90th birthday at Kilbachan
or Thursday. '
• • The former Grace McDonald
a daughter , of the late Mr. and
Mrs. James McDonald she was
born In Grey Twp. ,a mile north
of Walton. In 1904 she was
married to Angus MeCuaig.
The couple melted to Seaforth
in 1918. Mr. McCuaig died about
Area weekend crashes
claimed two lives and sent six
people to hospital.
Two persons are dead and
two injured as the result of a
single car accident at the inter-
section of Tuckersmith Township
Sideroad 45-48 and Concession
2 early Monday morning.
Dead is the driver of the car,
Brian Walter Zehr, 18, of 475
Huron Street, New Hamburg, and
a passenger Linda Catherine
Hohner, 18, of 182 Hope Street
E., Tavistoek.
Brenda Bohner, 18 a sister of
Linda's is in Victoria Hospital
London, with multiple injuries.
Donald Schumm, 18 of New Ham-
burg, is in satisactory condition
in Clinton Public Hospital.
Police report the car drove
straight off the raod on the curve
and struck a steel culvert. Both
injured passengers were thrown
from the car which was demOl-
ished. -
The accident which occurred
at 12;45 am was investigated
by Constable Ray primeau of
the Seaforth OPP.
The young people were re-
turning home after a Junior Girl's
Softball Game in Clinton in which
Linda played on first base' and
Brenda on third base for the
Tavistock team.

Lucan, on Wednesday still was

night about 9 o'clock in
front of Seaforth Community Hos-
pital.
Mr. Melady was the sole
occupant of a car that crashed
head-on with one carrying Mr.
and Mrs. Paul Hoff of Mitchell
and their 23-month-old son,
Stephen. The three Hod s are,
listed, in satisfactory condition
at the Seaforth Hospital.
Seaforth Chief , of Police,
Gordon Hulley, who investigated
the accident, said the Melady car
was travelling east and the Hoff
car west.
Both cars were demolished.
The engine of the Melady vehicle
was thrown 75 feet.
FALLS IN BARN
When he slipped and fell a
distance of 20 feet to the floor
of a barn while working in a
mow late Tuesday afternoon
Elmer Koehler well known Mc-
KIllop farmer suffered undeter-
mined injuries. He was rushed
to Seaforth Community Hospital
and then to Victoria Hospital
in London. He had not regained
consciousness on • Wednesday
according to his family.
At the same time the Van
Egmond foundation will officially
mark the inauguration of a
campaign to raise funds to assist
in the restoration project.
Mr. Doig said it was expected,
guests at the event would include
Hon. Chas. MacNaughton, Huron
MPP who had assi3t6d in esta-
blishing the roundation and in
gaining recognition of the Van
Egmond property as being of
historical significance. • Area
members of county, council also
will attend, he said as well as
Fred Wade and Larry Ryan of
the Heritage Foundation.
The public is -invited to attend
the ceremonies which 'get under-
way at 2 o'clock in the afternoon
and which take place on the lawn
in front of the residence.
School' society
completes ten
years of service
Members of the Clinton and
District Christian School Society
held their annual meeting in the
auditoriuM of the Clinton
Christian Reformed Church with
Mike Dykstra as chairman.
The secretary stated in his
annual report that the school
has completed ten years of op-
eration. During these ten years
the School has grown from two
rooms to six rooms, 'from an
enrolment of .40 pupils to-an
enrolment of nearly 200, from a
staff of two teachers to a staff
of six teachers with one part
time teacher.
' One of the highlit es this year
was the School's participation in
the Fine Arts Festival held in
London with six other-Christian
schools. Such a festival really
brings out the skills and talents-
each individual possesses. Eff-
orts will be made to make this
an annual event.
, X request to the Huron County
Board of Education to have cer-
tain pupils picked up by their
buses without additional charge
was turned down. The board
had hoped to receive permission
to use empty bus seats where
available on existing routes and
thereby cut down on their trans-
portation cost and receive some
value for the education tax
dollars which go to the Huron
County Board.
An auditor's report was pre-
sented stating that the financial
books of the school had been
audited and-were found to be in
good order.
DonationS toward the budget
were received from 61 families
while 66 parents paid tuition
and donations for sending their
children to the school. Among
the school's liabilitieb is a
$8,000.00 operating loan.,

cerned about possible futtire
trouble from 'a recently repair-
ed drain. Council will view this
drain to decide what step to
take to avoid flOoding.problems.
Beverley Nott of R.R.4, Clin-
ton, was appointed animal control
officer for the township.
Clerk-treasurer, Jarries Mc-
Intosh reported Wallace Drain-
completed, with a cost of 90.84
per cent of estimated total, and
the. Cooper Main 'completed at
a col i "88.9f,•per cent of es-
timate.
Passed for payment were the
following accounts;, roads
$5,045.77; drainage $8,112.19;
general government $825.36, and
EgMondville water, $179.94, /or
a total of $14,163.26.
Road Superintendent, Allan
Nicholson, reported there- had
been five accidents in the fown-
ship during the past three weeks,
including a double fatality.
He also reported a number
of road signs - such as "35
mile zone", being stolen from
their various locations.
In answer to a letter from
Frank Kling of Seaforth Lumber
Limited, Clerk McIntosh was in-
structed to inform him that
building lots on the south east
corner of the Hayfield River and
County Road 12 were not access-
ible for water from the town-
ship since the present system
was designed to service only the
lots north of the bridge. He
will be notified at the same time
that when a building program
is underway on the several lots
that the township will develop
Stanley Street easterly from
County Road 12.
Council tabled a resolution
from the Erie Economic Devel-
opment Council, that the Ont-
ario Government continue paying
grants to that Council and other
Development Councils, in Ont-
ario.
Next meeting will be held on
September 12.
A surprise birthday Party
honored. Fred McGavin on
Monday. The event was held
at the home of Mrs.. Jas. T.
Scott, Louisa St., Seaforth, Where
Mr. McGavin t,resides. Horn
in Carberry , Manitoba ,Mr.
McGavin moved to Seaforth in
'1904.
During his many years of
employment Mr. McGavin had
a hand in • the construction of
a number of Seaforth buildings
' including the Carnegie Library,
Bank of Commerce, Presbyterian
Church and Northside United
Church., He also worked for the
Hydro in the Guelph, St. Thomas
area, in C.P.R. construction from
Guelph to Goderich and from ..
Toronto to Sudbury, on
the harboUr at Port McNichol
and in "1918 at the Canada Furn-
iture Facory in Seaforth. Mr.
McGaVin was employed for some

CRASH ON MARKET STREET
A three vehicle accident on
Market , Street Wednesday
morning- resulted in damage of
over $1,000.
Chief Gordon Hulley, who in-
vestigated, said the incident
arose when cars driven by Fred
Knetsch and Mrs. Sharon Pruss,
of Seaforth, were in collision
and the Knetsch vehicle bounded
LOSES FINGER
Dyke Wheatley, 12.11.1, Dublin
is in Seaforth Community
Hospital following an accident at
his McKillop farm on Thursday
in which he lost a finger and
badly damaged a second.
Mr. Wheatley was blowing
straw when his hand became
caught In the blpwer.

Lived in McKillop, couple
have 50th anniversary -
' Mr. and Mrs. George Hart,
R.R. 2, Brussels were at home
to their friends and neighbors
on the occasion of their 50th
wedding, anniversary which they
celebrated in the Community
Centre, Cranbrook, on Wednes-
day August 30th from 2 -4 and
.7 - 9 p.m.
Mr. and Mrs. Hart were mar-
ried at the manse, Cranbrodk,
on,, August 30,. 1922 by the late
Reit. T. E. Kennedy. Mrs. Hart
was the former Susannah Ellen
Carmichael, daughter of the late
Angus and Mrs. Carmichael. Mr.
Hart is the son of the late John
G. Hart.
The couple farmed for two
years in MoKillop Township tel-
lowing their marriage and then
moved to Grey Township.
They have two daughters
(Etta) Mrs. Fred Buchanan, Kin-
burn; (Jean) Mrs. Ross Anderson,
Bornholm and four sons, John and
Robert at home, Charles at
Goderich; Jim, Grey Township.
One son died a number of years
ago. The couple also have 17
grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs.
Hart were the recipients of
many beautiful flowers and
gifts, including chairs from
neighbors and friends. Rev.
James Perrie read an address
and both Mr. and MrS. Hart
replied and expreqsed their
thanks and appreciation. The
Cranbrook W.I. catered fOr the
occasion.
