In scanning the Exeter--Times-Advocate we note that
a permit was approved Tuesday night for the construction
of a building for . the Royal Bank of Canada...Stephen
township has approved a building permit for the erection
of a $1,25,000 corn drying and storage building -cm part
Of lot 15, concession 13....Rev. and Mrs. Mervin Elston
of Centralia marked their golden Wedding recently- at
the home of their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and
Mrs. Allan ElSton. .
• The Mitchell Advocate relates that Mitchell Agricul-
tural SOelety met recently and plan bigger parade, guar.-
ter horse show, etc.„, for the ',pigged Little Fair" to be
held the.. first three days of September-Aeighbors and
friends of Mr. and Mrs. Ron Howard and boys honoured
them prior to their moving to their new home near Kip-
pen. A social evening was held and an address was read
by James Lealess....Mr. and MrS. Alex James marked
50 years of wedded life on Wednesday at their Mitchell
home.
,A family business for the past 48 years, .according
to the ' Teeswater' News, will close on Saturday. Jim
Meyer, proprietor of Meyer's •Meats and Food Market,
made the announcement to the news this week...Bob
.Thonipson has been named president of the Teeswater
Lions and Mrg. J. W. 131ake of Williams-
ford, formerly of Teeswater, recently :celebrated their
50th wedding anniversary....Re.v. Otto Haefele, semi-
retired priest, will be assistant to Rev. Frank Dent-
inger, pastor of Immaculate Cbncept).On parish at For-
mosa.
The Wingham Advance-Times reports that the Town
Council will, now meet -twice monthly to improve operat-
ing efficiency...Stanley-Berry Limited will break ground
Thursday, for a $185,000 expansion of its plant in, wing-
hain: It is expected to be completed by SeptembeFfst..,.
Capt. Jack Cameron and his wife, recently of Mimico,
were installed by 'Col. Wilfred Ratcliffe of Hamilton,
at a special service and reception at the Salvation Army
.Citadel. They succeed Capt. Jack Feernall and Mts.
Fearnall who were posted to Niagara Falls....Robert N.
Rintoul, s9n of Mrs.. Clara A. Rintoul and the late Mr.
Rintot,,has been appointed manager of the Toronto-
Dominion Bank in Prescott.
The Lucknow Sentinel reports that Gordon Montgomery
heads the Lucknow Legion, while Mrs. Ford Cunningham
is Ladies Auxiliary President. Installation took place on
Tuesday evening....The Club Variety Show attracted 600
people to show at Lucknow Arena.
Del Philip, long-time Blyth merchant, was honored
by the Blyth Board of Trade on Thursday night for his
assistance in condticting the, weekly draws during the
,Christmas shopping, period each year. According to - the
Blyth Standard Helen •Gowing, president of the. Board,
Presented Mr. Philip with in• honourary,,membership cert-
ificate....Mr., and Mrs. Gerald Heffron, Blyth, and Mr.
and Mrs. Tom Heffron, Hanover, attended the graduation
ceremony of Catherine Anne Daly. MiSs Daly is the
daughter of mr. and Mrs. Henry Daly, who used to operate
the Blyth Inn, before moving to Detroit.
The Clinton News-Record relates that Bayfield Coun-
cil has deferred street lights at present due to the street-
lighting budget being expended for this year.'
St. Marys Journal-Argus reports that 1972 is shaping'
up as a big year in Blanchard Township.. The large addi-
tion to the Campbell Soup plant, the ,building of the Walter
Tkaczuk Hockey School quarters along the .Thames; north
'of No. 7 highway and now the announcement that a London
developer has purchased several hundred acres near Glen-
gowan, three miles north of town along the Thames, The
intent is to 'develop a half million dollar sports complex
incorporating an 48 .hole 4 golf course,- swimming pool,
horse-back 'riding and So forth. In addition, we. hear work
on prelidifiary plans for the big Glengowan dam has
again shifted into high gear.

Education entertained retired and
retiring teachers and employees,
at a dinner, held recently in
Clinton HighSchool.
Each teacher or employee, -
was presented with a corsage
or boutonniere, as well as a
scroll, expressing appreciation
of their years of service in the
County.
Teachers from Seaforth
Public School who are retiring"'
this year and who--were' honored
were- Mrs. Eula Kellar and Mrs.
Florence Kay. Mrs. Elva Ellis
retired two years ago.

the Beauharnois Light, Heat and
Power Corporation received, by
an order-in-council, permission ,
to establish__ water rights in an
area which Cantin claimed to
have bought from, the Itribert
heirs in 1921. For the last de-
cade of his life he ,Tived quietly
at the family home at St. Joseph
He is buried in nearby St. Peter's
cemetery.

TB is a disease anybody Can
have. But it is most common in
' cities. Among the poor, the
black, and the elderly.
In the United States, there
are 143 cities with a population
_ of at least 100,000. In 37 states
Out of every 100,000 people. in
these, cities only 13 people have
active disease. TB rates in cities
high.,
Within the cities, the' highest
rates -are •in=-the-central core, in .
'so-called • poverty pockets.. De-
teriorating housing, deficient.di-
---etsi-crowded conditions, andgen-
erally low health standard create
':--treater vulnerability to infection.

--Among nonwhite people-- and

times higher. In Nassau County

have higher rates than young
people. The rates for white
males who are.65 and over are
eight times higher than for young-

early" twenties. But rates for
nonwhites who are 65 and over
are still' four- times--higher than
for white's in the same age group.
