Pioneer days at SPS
It was pioneer day at Seaforth Public School on Friday when students reverted to the customs
and dress of their ancestors. During the day a series of events recalled activities and past

a fashion show of garments made
during the Sleepwear Club..New
and original garments were mod-
elled. The roll call was "What
I leave my family to eat while I
am away" and Mrs. James Drum-
* mond commented on, the motto
"Are you mistress or slave in
your • kitchen" hnd also gave a
humorous reading.
Mrs. Grant MacLean dem-
onstrated new and old gadgets,
Mrs. Cecil Pullman read a poem
and Mrs. Al Hoggarth conducted s. a contest. Mrs. Robert Bell gave
a report of the District'Annual
and Mrs. M. Connolly on the
Guelph. Conference. Mrs. Jack
Bell, a new member, was pre-
sented with a handbook and Ins:-
titute pin..
It was decided to give Life
* Memberships to those members
who had completed twenty-five
or more consecutive years mem-
bership. Mrs. Alex MacGregor
gave courtesy remarks, Mrs.
Mike Connolly the new president,'
chaired the business and'/Mrs.
Al Hoggarth, the programme.
The bus trip to the Leamington
area will be olt June 19th. Lunch
was served by Mrs. Janes Chair
niers and her group.

'Elmer William "Bill) Col-
quhoun, who came to Clinton in
1930 whey Ontario Hydro opened
its first office here, died Thurs-
day, May 11, in nton Public
Hospital. He was in his '78th
year and had been in hospital
for two months. Mr. Colquhoun
had been 111 for over a year.
Since 1950 he had resided at
111 Huron Street.
Born in Hibbert Township,
Perth County, on October 3,
1894, he was the second son of
the late Mr. and Mrs. Arthur
E. Coiquhoun.
After his marriage in March
1916, to Isabelle Catherine
(Belle) McKellar., who survives,
they fanned ' near Shauna-
von, bask. 'After three years
they returned to Hibbert Town-
ship and farmed until Mr. Col-
quhoun joined the Mitchell area
of the Ontario Hydro in, 1929.
He stayed with the hydro until
joining the RCAF In 1943 as an
electrician with the construction
and maintenance unit. Stationed
in Alberta during the war, M.
Colquhoun stwed. in that prov-
ince as an electrician until re-
turning to Clinton in 1950. He
then worked at hi's trade at Can-
adian Forces Base, Clinton until
his retirement in 1960.
Mr. Colquhoun • was a life
member of Clinton Branch 140
of the Royal Canadian Legion,
which held a remembrance ser-
vice, at the funeral home Friday
evening, May 12. He ,was also
an' active member.of Huron Fish
and Game Conservation Associa-
tion, and all his life had ben
active and interested in sports.
Surviving besides his wife,
Isabelle, are four daughters,
Mrs. Leonard (Jean) Caldwell,
.Londesboro; Mrs. Leonard H.
(Isabel) Theedom, North Bay;
Mrs. George (Aurey) Hepburn,
Willowdale and Mrs. John A.
(Margaret) Robinson, R.R. 1,
Zurich; seven sons, A, Laurie,
Donald C., Kenneth W„ of Clin-
ton; Ross M., London; Murray E.
and Thomas H., ClIhtorr, and Hugh
M., London. Also 'surviving are
39 grandchildren and nine great
grandchildren; one Sister, Mrs.
Ernest S. (Marion) Allen, of Mit-
chell.
The funeral service at Beattie
Funeral Home, 5'5 RattenburySt.,
Clinton, on Saturday, May 13 was
conducted by Rev. Thomas C.
Mulholland of Seaforth and Clin-
ton Presbyterian Churches. Pall-
bearers were six grandsons, K.
Laurie,Donald A., Jackie 13.,
and Care B. Coiquhoun, all of
Clinton; Alan Caldwell, Auburn
arid Thomas J. Robinson, RR 1,
