Headtable guests taking part in the 10th anniversary celebra-
tion of the Founding of Father Stephen Eckert Council of Sea-
forth and District on Sunday included (left) Mrs. Daniel Creigh-

Rev. II.J.Laragh, 'council chaplain; Past Grand Knight, Cecil
Tufts and Mrs. Tufts, Stratford, a founder of the council; Mrs.
James Devereaux and Mr. Devereaux, Deputy Grand Knight;
Rev. T.G.Dill, Dublin and Mrs. Clifford McLelland, whose hus-
band was Insurance Representative during the organization of

Some ten years ago on May
6, 1972 a new council of the
Knights of Columbus had its be-
ginning at the Royal Canadian
Legion Hall, Seaforth. This past
weekend,. May 6th and 7th, the
Council marked its tenth anni-
versary with a well attended
dance at the Zurich Arena. Sat-
urday evening, concluding on
Sunday afternoon at St. Columban,
when Rev. P. A. Oostveen, parish
priest and assistant chaplain cel-
ebrated mass, and Rev. H. J.
Laragh, Council Chaplain, Sea-
forth, delivered the homily. Prior
to the mass, some 18 4th Degree
members Of the Dean Egan As-
sembly marched from the Council
rooms to the church and acted
as a guard of horiqr.
Following mass the guests
visited. the council rooms and
at 4 o'clock some, , 160 .
guests sat down to a dinner which
was prepared by, the Catholic
Women's League of St. Columban.
Council colors of red, blue and
yellow were predominant on the
anniversary cake which centred
the headtable and was topped with
ten red'candles.
Chairman for the occasion
was Leo Hagan, Grand Knight of
the host council who introduced
the headtable guests: Rev. N.J.
Laragh, Chaplain; Rev. P. A.
Oostveen, assistant , Chaplain;
Rev. A.A. Robert, Rev.. T: G.
Dublin; Rev. Thomas McQuaid,
SFM, formerly, of St. Columban
who had just arrived for a few
holidays from, the 'Missions; Mr.
and Mrs. Clifford McLelland,
'Guelph, Insmince Representa-
tive for NW and SW ,Ontario;
Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Creighton,
London, Past District Deputy of
District 9, London; Mr. and Mrs.
Cecil Tufts; Stratford, Past Dist-
rict, Deputy of District 31; Mr.
and Mrs. Ray Duaharine, Grand
Knight, Goderich Council;. Mr.

congratulations to the Council and

the Ontario State Board.

Ronald Ryan, Program Director
and included Ewart Wilson, Bill
Murray, Don Moylan, Frank Rey-
nolds, James Devereaux and Leo
Hagan.
A highlight' was a short ad-
dress by Clifford McLelland and
the presentation of a 25-year
Certificate and pin by Dan
Creighton and Cecil Tufts to the
Council Financial Secretary,
John J. Flanagan.
• Frank Reynolds thanked the
ladles of the CWL, for catering
the bahquet and Rev. eather Oost-
veen gave the final Grace. •
Father Stephen Eckert
Council was named in honor of
the late Father Stephen Eckert,
a Capuchin Monk, who died in
1923 after a life of Missionary •
Service among United States Neg-
roes, Father Eckert was born in
McKpilulbolpin.Township near Seaforth and
Officers of the new council

the council has aquired and fur-
nished and paid for new quar-
ters;-scholarships are presented

various grades in the council
