A Report From
Queens Park by Murray Gaunt,M.P.p.0
Correspondent
Mrs. Ken Elligsen
Pastor A.113aret was installed
Mr. Caufey was'paid $62,000
between May 1969, and August
1971, which was after he had-
submitted his.resignation on May
12th, 1969, and for which he did
no work. He claimed this was
the agreement he had worked
out with Mr. Bales, and he was
also entitled to accumulated sick
leave credits and holidays which
he hadn't taken during his 28
years with the Board. -
Even though the stated reason
for quitting, given in his letter
of resignatidn, fas ill health,
he produced Workmen's Com-
pensation Board records to show
he .had net missed a day in 1969,
Premier William Davis has
promised he will decide within a
week whether to set up a Royal
Commission inquiry or a jud-
icial inquiry into the operation of
the Workmen's Compensation
Board, and specifically the
Cauley Matter.
• The Premier also Made a
statement this week with res-
pect to the use of Government
aircraft by Cabinet misters.
In essence, he said there would
be no change in policy, and Min-
isters including himself, would
continue to use the aircraft for
work purposes even though part
of the time' was taken as a holi-
day.
The Ontario Legislature's-
Committee on Resources Devel-
opment, of which I am a mem-
ber, is currently investigating
the resignation of a former Vice
Chairman of the Workmen's
Compensation Board.
Mr. John C auley told the Com-
mittee on Wednesday that he
agreed not to appear in pane
for six months alter his forced
retirement from the Board to
substantiate that his retirement
was for health reasons.
Mr. Cauley said that was
part of the deal worked out with
Dalton Bales Labour Minister
at the time, during the Spring
'of 1969, and now Attorney Gen-
eral.
