WARREN VINCENT
CONGRATULATIONS
Warren •Vincent is a past
president of the Canadian Feder-
ation of Farm Equipment dealers
and in 1968 was president of
the Ontario Retail Farm Equip-
ment Dealers Assoc. At that
time Raymond Lancashire,
managing editor of the Canadian
Farm Equipment Dealer, wrote
this story concerning the Vincent
operations.
When I stepped into the prem-
ises of Vincent Fa'nn Equipment,
Ayr, Ont., last month I wondered
how I would find the million-
dollar dealer owner, warren
Vincent, ORFED's new president.
The parts department was
bright and clean and had a look
of being -well-organized, with
quick-moving parts displayed en-
ticingly to catch the eye of even
the most earthy farmer.
Two more steps and one of
the parts men was asking if
• he could help .me. I told him I
.had an appointment with Warren,
a magazine feature being the
hopeful outcome of the meeting.
"Just hold On," said myparts
man friend. "He's in finalising
a sale with a farmer. We've had
a pretty busy winter."
Sure enough, through his
office window I could see Warren,
in deep conversation with a client,
jacket off just, like most other
dealers I meet.
And the image stays 'the
same once you meet Warren.
He is a dealer, not an executive.
But he is a dealer whose business
has passed the million-dollar,
mark, and is now reckoned to
be one of the top three dealer-
ships in Ontarid.
The success story,of Warren
and his brother, Marlen is fas-
cinating to the point where you
really wonder how to begin to ,
tell it.
• The Vincent's International
Harvester dealership will soon
be 50 years old. It was started
by Warren's father, Leslie Vin-
cent, who first sold implements
in the small streets of Ayr with
a wheelbarrow full of farm im-
plements.
•
"My brother and— I were
Steeped in the business from the
time we could talk," said Warren.
"Our father would come, home
after each day-out selling imple-
ments and tell us about his'
sales. We would be,,fascinated
and we got,, every encourage-
ment to come into the business."
The dealership expanded and
with it the preinises. In 1948,
,/a 40 x 60 ft. building saw the
dealershipmove into new quar-
ters, and in 1959., 32 x 60 ft.
were added and no* houses all
operations of Vincent Farm
Equipment in'Ayr. .
In 1955, Warren and Marren
took over the business front their
father and kept up the tradition
of moving with the times and
expanding sales and profit.
Warren was one of the first
dealers in the province to
install a Dynamometer: •
More developments and ex-
pansion were to come for the
dealership. In 1964, Warren
moved part of the operation to
a site' just outside Ayr. Here,
he built a set-up centre for new
eqUiprnent and • displaying
trade-ins and also using the 40
x 60 ft. building 'for trade-in
servicing. The 'location of this
centre hits you as you drive into
Ayr anti is an obvious eye-catcher
for local farmers.
•
1965 saw the real expansion Of
'he Vincent operations. They took
over the Galt Lawn &, Garden
Supply dealership and turned it
into another HI operation. The
same year, Warren and Marlen
incorporated,' with Marlen run-
ning the Galt operation.
"Tile business owes much of
