Since this will be the last
column for 1964, we thought
we would look at some of the
items written which include
correct and incorrect predic-
tions made this year.
Looking back, we must blush
a little about what we said
about "Peyton Place". This was
the surprise of the year and
many people were fooled. Then
there was the correct predic-
tion that "Bewitched" would be
in the top five, and right now
is number two. We also said
that "12 O'clock High" would
be a sure loser, and it looks
like we were right on that one.
Dozens of "specials" were
featured by all networks dur-
ing the year. Let's review a
few: The first anniversary of
the assassination of President
Kennedy; The Making of a
President; a special following
ex-President Hoover's death;
tributes to Sir Winston Chur-
chill; the usual excellent Bob
Hope specials; the presentation
of the Nobel Prizes; the cover-
age of the Royal Visit; and
the terrific network coverage of
the n.S. conventions and the
November election.
It has been a year of con-
troversy too. Remember all the
fusz, :tl)uuL ('BC's Goad ):rides*
program "The Open Grave"?
Then there was the Pearson
film episode. And like other
years, the CBC has again wea-
thered the usual assaults heap-
ed on them in the House of
Commons and by individuals
and organizations.
No one knows what will hap-
pen in 1965, but we will go out
on a limb and make just one
prediction: The government
will allow Canadian television
stations to telecast in colour in
'65. The fact that television is
here to stay was established
many years ago. It will con-
tinue to grow, prosper and
serve the public. It provides
everyone with instant enter-
tainment, education and infor-
nut tion. •
Best wishes to all readers in
'65.

Going To The Movies Is Fun
To Canadian film critic Gerald Pratley, going
to the movies is not just "all in a day's work", it is
fun. The host of CBC radio's Pratley at The Movies
heard Sunday's at noon, sees an average of five
regular films a week, attends special showings of
foreign and Canadian films and reads some 25 film
magazines and books on film techniques each
month. As well he travels around the world collec-
ting material for his shows. There is hardly anyone
of importance from William Wyler to Federico
Fellini who hasn't been interviewed on his program.
