A Good Council
THE VILLAGE of Bayfield deserves good gov-
ernment ,and judging by the results of the municipal
election here last week, there is every likelihood it
will be forthcoming.
Commenting on the results election night, the
new reeve, Frederick Clift expressed himself as well
satisfied with the council over which he will preside
in the coming term.
"The electors chose well," he said, adding that
it would have been difficult to elect other than a
good council, in view of the well-qualified candidates
who presented themselves to the voters, and who
made it possible to hold a full-dress election.
It is noteworthy that Frank McFadden, former
chairman of the board of trustees was given a strong
mandate to lead the poll. He was, evidently, the
choice of almost every voter.
Interest in municipal affairs is at a peak now,
and a highly representative seventy-five percent of
the available voters was checked off at the poll in
the town hall.
Council will get off to an official start Monday
evening when the inaugural meeting will be held in
the village hall at 8 p.m. The clergy of the village
have been invited to take part in the ceremonies
and the public is invited to attend and see a bit of
history made before their eyes. The oath of office
will be administered to the reeve and four councillors
by the acting clerk, Lloyd Makins; Divine Guidance
will be invoked and Bayfield's local government
will go into gear.
We insisted on our own government. Now let's
back up council with our support and interest and
presence.
Editorial Briefs
It was the warmest and greenest Christmas on
record in Bayfield, but Santa Claus came through
despite the weather handicaps, and got the stockings
filled as usual. It's a good thing Santa's sleigh is
airborne, or the runners would have been ground
right off the old sleigh!

What purports to be Canada's new flag was fly-
ing from the staff in front of The Albion Hotel over
the New Year's weekend. Whatever one thinks of it,
that's it, and we had better get used to it.

The New Year's resolutions include one to try and
keep The Bulletin office open at least afternoons
from here in. The number is 96, and if there is no
answer, it means we're chasing around making calls.
In that case, better call Mrs. Bellchamber at Bayfield
38. She will look after things or turn your message
over to us. Best of all, drop a note to Box 96, Bayfield
Post Office. We seldom fail to call there. There might
even be a cheque in the mail.
