TV VIEWS
By William Whiting
It would appear that the
CBC thinks more, of "Flash-
back" and "Ed Sullivan" than
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth.
CTV -the three-year-old Cana-
dian network dropped "Mr. No-
vak" and provided Canadians
with exclusive coverage of the
Royal Visit last Sunday at 7:30.
We know Ed Sullivan has a big
rating. and the CBC knows
that many of their viewers
would pick up Ed on the Am-
erican channels. Perhaps it
was Flashback which concerned
CBC brass. A look at past rat-
ings will show that Canadians
never miss it. Viewers in this
area prefer Mr. Novak over
Flashback, proving this point. • * •
After a month-long all-Cana-
dian contest on the Jamy
Quest TV program, the first
prize winner was a 13-year-old
CKCO-TV viewer from RR 1,
Britton. Her name is Audrey
Biesinger and she flies to New
York with her parents on Oct-
ober 16th. They'll tour the
World's Fair and many other
interesting sites while in New
York. All expenses are paid, of
course.

The Ontario Department of
Transport is responsible for the
over-all traffic accidents statis-
tics for the Province. But the
Department of Highways also
prepares detailed particulars of
fatal accidents occuring on the
King's Highway. The Ontario
Safety League says that these
reports give disturbing evid-
ence of the extent to wich al-
cohol is associated with fatal
crashes. For instance, the re-
port for July shows there were
49 fatal accidents (on King's
Highways only) killing 76
people. In these 49 cases 19
drivers and 4 pedestrians were
listed as "drinking".
