wooded area in Bruce County
on foot, searching for wild dogs
which were running and killing
dear in the area. Back in the
bush about one and a half miles
from the closest road the Offic-
er entered a small clearing and
noticed a six foot mound re-
sembling an old grave; on the
mound were growing watermel-
ons, several types of squash,
cucumbers, pumpkins and one
beautiful red gladioli. At one
end of the mound was a wea-
therbeaten rough cross with
fresh writing—"In Memory of
W. E. Gourd".
Since this occurrence, all
kinds of thoughts have been
considered on the story behind
their weird and wonderful find-
ing. No doubt there is an an-
swer; but until the truth is
found, we are keeping the exact
location a deep dark secret. * * *
A tip was given to a Conser-
vation Officer recently. "Watch
for a hunter at such and such
a camp, he has trained his tiny
"Chihuahua" to chase deer and
intends to carry it in his hunt-
ing coat pocket during the deer
hunt." In this area dogs are
not 'allowed for deer hunting.
One wonders what the Bruce
County deer will 'think if they
see a 2 pound mutt following
their trail.
Golfers Beware Beware
:Some little-known facts ab-
out driving hazardS, that have
nothing to do with automobiles,
are quoted by the Ontario Safe-
ty League. A 'driven golf hall
travels about 250 m.p.h. In the
U.S. there were ,about 15,000
disabling injuries on the golf
course during 1961. About 'half
of these injuries were due to
wild shots, and 3,750 of these
shots struck players; 1875
struck caddies and the balance
of the injuries were divided
among workmen, spectators and
passers-by.

arranging a further develop-
ment on the Crediton road. In
addition, we are carrying out
our usual program of bridge
work and road construction."
He mentioned the property
committee's improvements at
the jail, in C.A.S. quarters and ,
apt Huronview.
"The demand for accom-
modation at Iluronview is go-
ing to continue," he said, "and
it certainly speaks well for the
comfort the patients receive
there."
Mr. McKenzie expressed th-
anks for 'the co-operation of the
clerk-treasurer, deputy clerk-
treasurer Hanley and staff,
county engineer and staff.
Mr. MacNaughton expressed
disappointment at the absence
of L. E. Cardiff, MP, Huron,
and Marvin Howe, MP, Wel-
