Christmas Tree
Tips For Safety
Christmas trees, a symbol of
gaiety and happiness, too often
become a mass of flames and
a symbol of disaster.
Trees, decorations, and spe-
cial Christmas costumes should
all be chosen with special care
and protected from fire. Here
are some recommendations for
safety in the home during the
Christmas season:
1) Don't use indoor lights out
of doors.
2) Keep the base of the tree
in a container of water; the
water will be absorbed and
keep the tree moist.
3) Keep trees away from
stoves, heaters and fire places.
4) Use good quality electric
lights on the tree, not candles.
5) Avoid the use of exten-
sion cords whenever possible.

6) Be sure that Christmas
lights do not overload the elec

7) Keep papers, gifts and
other inflammable articles
away from the base of the tree
until Christmas eve.
8) Do not use paper, gauze-
like materials or other highly
inflammable cloths for child-
ren's costumes.
9) Cheek carefully for burn-
St. Andrew's
UCW Meets
Unit One of the United Ch-
urch Women of St. Andrew's
United Church, Bayfield, held
its meeting at the church last
Thursday. Mrs. Dunn led in
worship with the advent and
Christmas hymns and Mrs. Ro-
bert Scotchmer gave a Bible
reading. Prayer was led by Mrs.
Peterson.
Mrs. Poth took the study
book chapter and gave a brief
account of the UCW Bible
Study in October at Five Oaks.
Mrs. John Lindsay conducted
the business session during
which a number of reports —
including that of the nominat-
ing committee--was given. The
needs of the church building
were discussed and a list was
made of hospital patients and
shut-ins.
It was decided to make up
Christmas boxes again this
year, donation for which can be
left with Mrs. Bell. The ex-
ecutive acted as hostesses for
the social period which fol-
lowed.
