The Bayfield Bulletin, 1964-12-10, Page 2TV Views By %VIIllani Whiting Owners of Community Ant- enna TV systems can breathe caner now. Last summer a proposal was announced to bring CATV systems under BBG licensing control which would limit foreign control of these firms to 25 percent and protect Canadian TV stations from harmful competition. The withdraw! of this proposed law was practically unnoticed in the last-minute rush of spend- ing estimates through t h e House of Commons. • • • With "Peyton Place" doing so well in the U.S. and in the Toronto area, seen on Channel 7 Buffalo, a group of ten Can- adian TV stations purchased this juicy material. Station in this area to show "Peyton Place" is CKCO-TV Kitchener, every Thursday and Saturday. starting December 12th at 9:30 with the Thursday showing at 9 p.m. ABC-TV informs us that on December 28th they will pre- sent a new daytime serial dra- ma about a widow who write a novel dealing with her small town. Sounds familiar. All we need now is a "Peyton Place" on morning radio. • . • Manufacturers are saying that when the Christmas shop- ping is over the U.S. colour TV set sales will probably hit the one-and-a-half million mark. We feel it's time that colour should be introduced in Canada. Some TV station heads are pre- dicting that this will happen next year. If .this is true, then we have about three weeks be- fore the middle of the sixties arrives. For delicious Meals stop at . . . I, personally, have spent every summer for the last 36 years in Bayfield and other members of my fam- ily for many more than that Thanking you so much, but also knowing that a duplication is just unnecessary waste and expense, I am, Most sincerely, Barbara Morley Erb. 1415 Suffield Rd., Birmingham, Mich., Dec. 5, 1964. The Bayfield Bulletin, Bayfield, Ont. Dear Sir: We enjoy receiving the pap- er and I must say I am whole- ly in agreement with the sen- timents expressed by Mr. J. C. Hindmarsh in his letter re "hunting with camera". It cer- tainly does take more courage and skill to approach game with a camera than a high pow- ered rifle. The terrible cruelty inflicted on creatures in the woods by so called sportsmen is appalling. We hope the newly incorpor- ated village will be able to find able and capable people to serve on the council and are looking forward to next sum- mer when we can once again become "Bayfield residents". AT LAST Bayfield has been granted incorporated status again, and as announced elsewhere in the news columns, nominations for village reeve and four coun- cillors will be held at the Village Hall Monday even- ing, December 21st. If you are an eligible elector in polling sub- division No. 8 of the Stanley Township voters' list of 1964, it is your right and duty to attend and participate in the nominations, and if required, cast your vote on election day, December 28. The long-sought local government should reflect the wishes of the majority of the members of the community. It seems likely, in view of the keen interest shown to date, that there will be an excellent turnout. The election for school trustees gave a strong indication of this. Plan to attend the nomination meeting, and above all cast your ballot if the positions are contested. It's a matter of speak now or hold your peace until next year. It Looks Like Christmas THE POPULAR song "It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas" is likely to pop into the head when one catches a glimpse of Bayfield's main street these evenings. Knee deep snow on the lawns, together with colored lights and evergreen decorations have given the modest "main stem" a happy, colorful quality that most attractively complements the lights in the park and on some private homes. The old Albion Hotel has been appropriately decorated with trees and lights, as has the telephone company building across the road. Kerr's Market Lunch, The Woollen Shop, the Variety Store and Hovey's General Store have all made their contribu- tion to the festive air. They are to be commended for the efforts entailed, and it is hoped even more can b done next year when the businessmen's new organization may haw grown a little muscle. Meanwhile, it is to be hoped private residences will show the spirit of Christmas in their windows, affording pleasure to residents and visitors alike, as well as to the towners. Let's brighten the corners where we are!
