We your PUBLIC SCHOOL CONSULTA- TIVE Committee herewith submit our report on matters referred to us at or before this session. DOCUMENT 33 & 53-1966 This is the request of rate- payers in Stanley Township to have ce r tain portions of this Township attached to the Village of Bayfield for school purposes. The following portions of the Public Schools Act seem to apply to this request. Section 40-(1) Subject to sub- sections 2 to 12 and sections 13 14, on and after the 1st day of January, 1965, every township shall be a township school area. (8) Every urban manicipality that formed part of a township school area on the 1st day of Jan- uary, 1965, shall continue to form part of the township school area. (9) Every urban municipality that had a population of under 1,000 according to the municipal census for the year 1963 and every urban municipality that had an av- erage daily attendance in the pub- lic schools in the municipality of under 100 resident pupils in the year 1963 shall, on and after the 1st day of January, 1965, form part of the township school area that surrounds it or with which it has the greatest length of common bound- ary. (5) Where the average daily att- endance of pupils of the public schools under the jurisdiction of a board is less than 100 in any year. the inspector shall notify the clerk of the county and the secretary of the board affected, and the council of the county shall by by-law passed before the 1st day of July following notice from the inspector, attach the school section in which the board has jurisdiction to an adjoining school section. The Bayfield Bulletin salutes the Marching Mothers of Bayfield who will brave the rigors of our wintery weather Friday and Saturday of this week, doing more than their fair share, in the hope of bringing medical aid, therapy and a chance for a decent life to those in need of rehab- ilitation from physical affliction. No matter how much we may wish to improve education, the cost is worring all of us. We need new schools. The expense of their re- placement would astound their buil- ders, our grandfathers. Teachers' salaries are continually rising. Equipment satisfactory in the for- ties is outmoded. We want new de- signs, new teaching aids, and a great deal of auxilliary assistanc e such as medical and dental examin- ations, nurses' visits, aptitude and intelligence tests, libraries, sports and recreational facilities. Oath of office was adminis- tered by Judge Robert Hether- ington and 1965 warden, Glenn Webb, of Stephen Township. presented the new warden with the chain of office and the gavel. Among those new county councillors welcomed by clerk John G. Berry was Mrs. Minnie Noakes, Hensall reeve. who is only the second woman to sit at Goderich. Bayfield Library Association Re-elects Mrs. John Mackenzie The Bayfield Library Association held their annual meeting, Tuesday January 18th at the home of the president, M s. John MacKenzie. In her report the secretary Mrs. Rob- ert Scotchmer stated that in the previous year there were 254 sub- scribers, and the circulation was 4,600 of which 4,112 were fiction and 488 non-fiction. (see Page 4) an( Huron County Public School Area McKillop Reeve New Warden Kenneth Stewart, reeve of McKillop Township, was named warden of Hunan County for 1966 on Tuesday. Beginning his third year as reeve of that township, Warden Stewart is a past president of the Seaforth Farmers' Co-operative and a former secretary-treasurer of the McKillop Public School board. He defeated Reeve Stewart Proctor, of Morris Township, on the third ballot by a vote of 21 to 18. Eliminated on the
