HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Bayfield Bulletin, 1965-09-02, Page 1Child Dies after Swallowing Pills Michele Cosens, 22-month- old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Cosens, Leamington, died in Listowel Memorial Hos- pital early Tuesday morning af— ter swallowing an undetermined number of sleeping pills. The child had been at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Elton Lounsbury, Wroxeter, with her parents. First intimation of trouble came when the tot fell asleep at the supper table and it was later found that the box of sleeping pills was open. Rushed to the Listowel Hos- pital at 7:30 Monday evening she was given emergency treat- ment and doctors worked over her throughout the night. She died about 6:30 the following morning. Top-Name Acts Headline All-New Western Fair A completely new system along with a host of top at- tractions will be featured at Western Fair. The new system will see an outside gate price of $1.00 for adults and .250 for children which will include such attractions as free grandstand, free horse show plus a host of free shows and acts throughout the grounds. The only things that a patron will be required to pay for outside of gate admis- sion will be midway, what is bought to eat or bought to take home. Top name performers will headline the nightly grandstand shows which are scheduled at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. each eve- ning. During the opening two nights, September 10 and 11, the feature grandstand enter- tainment will be television MC Mike Douglas and beautiful Irish songstress Carmel Quinn plus the New Zealand Maori Singers and Dancers. The evening grandstand show Monday to Wednesday will headline comedian George Go- bel and singing idol Bobby Vin- ton. The final three evenings, the famous Hubert Castle Inter- national 3-ring Circus will be returning by popular request. The circus will also play two afternoon performances on Sep- tember 17 and 18. Red River Jamboree. a fash- ion show, rodeo and automobile thrill shows will highlight after- noon programs. A host of other attractions such as roving musicians, Dan- ny Sailor, the world's champion tree climber, Garland Parnell, an authentic organ grinder with his monkey Trickey Bobb, Den- ny, the world's smallest trained baby elephant, the mechanical man and the Labatt Marionette Theatre will help to make this year's Western Fair the most exciting ever and they're all free. At the same time, it was indicated Bayfield would be permitted to retain the present two-room school without the proposed addition.
