ONT. This advertisement is one of a series which relates some of the important benefits of the Canada Pension Plan to individual circumstances. Issued by authority of the Minister of National Health and Welfare, Canada, The Honourable Judy LaMarsh. The Canada Pension Plan and its benefits Here is what the Canada Pension Plan will do for people like Joe Costello, a 52-year-old unmarried labourer who earns $50 a week. months of low or no earnings do not affect the amount of the pension. If Joe wishes to continue working between 65 and 70 and earns higher wages than previously he can improve his pension. For example, if he works until aae 69 and earns $3,600 a year, his pension will be $61.74 a month instead of S54.16. If Joe becomes disabled after 1970, having contributed for at least 5 years, he will get a disability pension of 565.62 a month until he gets both his retirement and Old Age Security pensions at age 65. All benefits under the Plan will maintain their value. The actual benefits payable will probably be higher than those given here since benefits will be adjusted to meet changes,in living costs and in wage levels before they are paid and changes in living costs after they become payable. What will the Plan cost you? If you, like Joe Costello, are employed and have earnings of S2.600 spread evenly over the year, you will pay at the rate of 690 a week. Your employer will pay the same amount. 4 Kautmanniana, Greigii and Fosteriana and their hybrids, to almost June for the late kinds and since it varies within these classes, it is a good idea to plant groups of the same variety together. Contrast colours and shapes by planting different varieties and classes, in groups, nearby. By carefully choosing a few bulbs from the early species, then from single and double earlies, Mendel, Tri- umph, Darwin Hybrids, Dar- wins, Single Late (Cottage), Double Late (Peony flowered), Parrot, Lily-flowered and Breeder, you can have tulips in bloom for ten weeks. Each class contains dozens of named varieties. As a beginner you use moisture-vapor-proof pack- aging and place peaches in the freezer at 0 degrees F or lower. Not all varieties freeze well. Redhaven, Envoy, Sunbeam and Veteran give satisfactory results. Use only table-ripe peaches at eating maturity. Remove peach skins by dipping in boil- ing water for about one minute, and then in cold water. Slice as for serving. Add sugar in proportion of one to six (one pound sugar to six pounds fruit). Broiled, stuffed mushrooms are also delicious with a cream sauce on toast for lunch or sup- per. Social News By Mrs. Audrey Bel!chamber, Social Editor, Phone Bayfield 38 By Jacob Anderson Even if you have never grown a flower nor a blade of grass be- fore, you can enjoy gardening si:ccess and have a flourishing, colourful flower garden next spring simply by setting out a few tulips, daffodils, hyacinths or crocuses this fall. If you have already grown Dutch bulbs, try a few more; pay special at- tention to cultural needs and see the results in future springs. Choose a place of excellent drainage; provide a few hours of direct sunlight; plant soon enough for the bulbs to root in fall before freeze-up; make sure there are plant nutrients avail- able at the root level; remove faded blossoms next spring but do not remove leaves until they turn brown naturally if you want blooms in the future; water dur- ing droughts and spray for any insect problem if it occurs. Plant tulip bulbs at least six inches deep (even deeper if you can prepare the soil under them) and about six inches apart. Tulips should be planted about four to six weeks before freeze- up. Tulips are sold in named varieties and by classes as well as in mixtures of both. Since blooming ranges from April for the low-growing species such as If Joe continues to work full time until age 65 he can look forward to retiring with a monthly pension of $54.16 from the Canada Pension Plan and $75 from Old Age Security—a total of $129.16. That's almost 60% of what he was earning. If he is ill or out of work for as long as two years, or if his earnings for a period of up to two years arc below his regular wage, he will receive the same pension at age 65. This is because under the Plan a certain number of CP-45C Freezing Peaches For Winter Use Freeze peaches now and en- joy their fresh fruit flavor in the cold months of winter. Here are some tips to preserve the flavor, color, and texture of fresh peaches. To prevent discoloration, add pure ascorbic acid in pro- portion of one-quarter teaspoon to one pound fruit. Be sure to may want a dozen bulbs of one class for a spring splash, a few of several classes just to see what the difference is, or perhaps you'd like to plan out the full 10 weeks bloom by choosing three bulbs each of one or more varieties from ach of the classes.
