Mrs. Tom Bailey, a former
village trustee read telegrams
from F/0 "Ted" Turner, P.E.I.;
Garfield Westlake, B.C.; and
Miss Grace Pepper, all former
pupils, regretting that they
could not attend.
Mrs. Leroy Poth, a former
principal of Hayfield Public
School then spoke and said how
much she had enjoyed her years
of fellow teaching with Mrs.
Parker and said students in
Mrs. Parker's junior room bene-
fited greatly by her teaching.
Stewart Watson, Dundas, a
former pupil of SS 4, also paid
tribute to Mrs. Parker and said
that she "didn't just teach" but
had "moulded" her students.
Mrs. Mvgaret Hulls, a former
pupil and now a teacher at
Dutton Public School also spoke
highly of Mrs. Parker.
At the Park, the old Bayfield committee.
School bell was brought out of
retirement, reminding many of
their "call" to classes in the old
days. A novel feature was an
arch of evergreens framing the
guestbook, with a "schoolbell"
at its center.
Mrs. John Lindsay; Mrs. Rob-
ert MacVean; Mrs. Robert
Blair; Mrs. Dave Battye; Miss
Shirley Brandon and Mrs. Percy
Renner comprised the "Recog-
nition Day for Vina Parker"

The other day I happened to be
where Dave Wilson, the noted car-
ver of wild birds and game anim-
als was holding forth with some
of his many friends.
Talk got around to moose hunt- ,
ing and it reminded him of a story
he picked up around "The Saulte".
Goes something like this:
Two guys were moose hunting in
a wide open swamp where there were
few trees. They were chased by a
big ferocious bull moose, so one
had to climb the only big tree,
while other dived into a big hole
between the roots.
The infuriated moose repeated-
ly charged the tree until the man
dashed out from the roots. The man
ran with the moose in full pursuit
and having nowhere else to go,div-
ed into the hole again.
To the amazement of his friend
up the tree, the man repeated this
performance several times, always
making it back to the hole just
as the bull moose caught up with
him.
The man up the tree shruted:
"For pete's sake, jim, stay in the
hole :"
Jim dashed out the hole again,
with the moose right behind him.
"I can't," he screamed."There's
a helluva big black be'ar down in
that hole !"
We've always maintained that
life can get to be a vicious cir-
cle, but we never thought of it
getting quite that tough. Any-
way, some of the lads laughed un-
til they had tears in their eyes.
Including your humble servant.
