tried to lift on a

Needless to say,

rolling along. The

just laughed when I
told him about it.
Saw a 27-lb. pike
caught through the
ice on Norana Lake,
and he looked more
like a giant lake
trout than anything,
with a very deep line
to the belly. Seems
the old lunkers are
not the very best of
eating.
Touched one pike
with a canoe paddle
in a nameless lake
north of the East-
main River which rums
into James Say. He
would go over 30 lbs
and resembled a big
torpedo gliding by.
Had him hooked for
a few seconds, but in
the excitement froze
on the spin clamp.
Game over.

Still haven't played the course yet, which
makes me wonder what I'm doing sitting here,
pounding this out on the typewriter, instead
of being on a fairway griping my favourite
trouble-shooter, a 5-iron. As the Advertis-
ing Editor of the Wingham Advance-Times
remarked to me Sunday night in his office,
this newspaper business is an 8-day-a-week
proposition!
Despite not actually playing yet, I did
mannage to get as far as the club-house
where I talked with BILL HUILL. I learned
from him that have been a number of fee
changes this year: Green Fees will now be
$1:25 for weekdays, and $2:C0 for weekends.
A season's membership will be $25 for men,
$20 for women, $15 for students,16 and under,
and $10 for children 12 and under.
The course itself has seen no startling
changes, but a new tee for the 1st hble
has been put in, which should be ready
sometime early in July. Also, the back
art of the 4th green near the woods has
been raised. Anyone who played that hole
last year will remember that a shot played
directly to the green from any distance need-
ed a fantastic amount of backspin to hold,
and not run off into the trees (as mine
always did!)
An unusual type of tournament was held in
aid of Junior Golf on the Bayfield Course a
few weeks ago. Clubs all over the country
eld similar tournaments, in which the idea
as to beat a score posted by GEORGE KNUDSON,
hich was, if I remember correctly, 74. A
ollar entrance fee entitled anyone to chall-
enge Ynudson's score, and if successful, thyy
ecieved a small trophy. CHARLIE HARRIS was
the local winner.
