preeent advising the council that now
would be the titne to have a quanitity
ot gravel laid down for repairing that
piece of road allowance near Coulter'
sawmill, at present in a very bad con
ditiotl. Tho report of these gentlemen
was favorab y regeived by the council
tvho resolved to take action and do
something in this matter at an early
date. John Jefferson, Timothy Deno
hues, Owen Donnelly and others from
the vicinity of and representing
Donnybrook, were present, reminding
the council that a petition from a
number of ratepayers of the township
was laid before the then acting coun-
cil several years ago, requesting that a
bridge be built for their own and the
general public's aceumodation,and filed
away -tit that time for further consider-
atiou. They now asked to have this
petition looked up, and action taken
to have this job dine as soon as pos'ie•
ble. ' After discussing this matter for
sotne time. the Reeve and other mein -
bees ot the council carne to the con-
clusion that it would not be advisable
to invest money in the meantime on

The Foresters here held their annual
dinner on 'Thursday, January 21. It
was this time held as a public dinner
and concert, to which upwards of 400
turned out, which made it out. of the
most successfui'guthertu s ever held
in the village. The H 0 R, E Towe,
of London, was prereut and delitervd
an address on the benefits of the
Order. The remainder of the pro.
gramme was very ably rendered. --
Mr W Cole was unfortunate enough to
lose $85 out pf his coat pocket, "whit
hanging in his, room, about two weeks
ago, during the ebseneo of all the
aarties from the huu.te. The party
will doubtiess get into trouble, if the
money is not returned,ae he has strong

Upon severing his connection with
the 33rd Battalion Band, Mr Andrew
Kidd was presented with a handsome
cane, as a' slight recognition of his
services while cuuneoted with the
band. Mr Kidd leaves shortly to take
up his residence in Toronto. -Mr

residence, in Goderich street, to Rev

The weather was all that could be de-
sired and consequently the.attendauee
was large. A very enjoyable, evening
was spent. A collection was taken
up, which amounted to $12.-1t is
our sari duty to chronicle the death of
Mr Andrew Balfour, an old and res-
pected resident of Turnberry. His
remains were interred in the Bluevale
Cemetery on Monday and the large
concourse of friends and acquaintances
at the funeral testified as 'to the es.
