Reassuring Event
It was good to see such a good turnout at the
annual meeting of the Bayfield Ratepayers' Associa-
tion Friday night, despite the lack of mention of the
event in these columns. It was also good to see the
unanimity with which the purposes of the Association
were endorsed.
Owing to the great deal of detail which is seem-
ed mandatory to deal with, the meeting was on the
overlong side, resulting in some of the less ardent
citizens retiring from the meeting before its culmina
tion.
It was interesting to see how, judging by the
evidence brought out by Mr. Ormond, how ducks and
drakes have been played with the northern boundaries
of the village, with a resultant disarrangement in tax
revenues. Small wonder Goderich Township coun-
cillors were surprised to see what purport to be the
correct boundaries set out on a map after all these
years of what must have been unofficial gerrymand-
ering.
Latest word from Brigadier Clift on his return
from a meeting with the Minister of the Department
of Municipal Affairs, Tuesday, is that the Bayfield
delegation was "well received". Most are, of course.
The Association chairman was accompanied by Frank
McFadden, chairman of the village board of trustees;
Association vice-president Jack Tillman; treasurer H.
H. Ormond and committee member Alan Aylsworth.
In a statement for publication Brig. Clift said:
"Mr. Spooner assured us he would look into the
matter of when the hearing by the Ontario Municipal
Board could be arranged. We expect it will be held
in October, and property owners and others concerned
should be receiving notices of such a hearing before
too long".
The unit looks to be in fighting trim, with an
experienced field commander ready for the oratorical
battle.
Music Stand This Summer
Winnipeg singer Georges LaFleche is set to
provide a half hour of the best in popular and show
music each Thursday evening on CBC-TV's Music
Stand. Each week LaFleche and his special guests
are backed by Eric Wild and his 18-piece orchestra.
