Thurs., September 24, 1964—Bayfield Bulletin—Page 5 Businessmen
Plan Association
(Continued from Page One)
In the meantime, it is hoped
that every person in business
in Bayfield and immediate area
will be contacted and will at-
tend the general meeting.
At the suggestion of Art. El-
liott, publisher of The Bayfield
Bulletin, it was agreed that
Robert Schrier, advertising
manager of The Goderich Sig-
nal-Star and chairman of the
Goderich Businessmen's Associ-
ation, should be invited to sit
in at the general meeting and
speak on the subject of the
desirability of forming a busi-
nessmen's association here.
Meanwhile, it was planned
that every person with a busi-
ness stake in Bayfield and im-
mediate area should be con-
tacted to attend the general
meeting October 6th, with a
view to forming a strong as-
sociation which would be cap-
able of furthering the business
interests of the village, and at
the same time preserve the
charm and spirit of Old Bay-
field.

Three Canadian good will
ambassadors left Halifax by air
recently enroute to Vienna and
the twelfth annual World Plow-
ing Championship. This contest
in the art of peace is open to
farmers a}l over the world, and
represents a rainbow that real-
ly has a pot of gold at the
end of it.
The pot of gold is the Esso
Golden Plow trophy, which the
Winner holds for a year, and
two of the Canadians, Stan
Willis of Cornwall, P.E.I.. and
Bill Hostrawser of Malton, On-
tario, are determined to return
it to Canada this year. Their
coach and team manager, Dave
Gilchrist of Frederickton says
he is confident that one of them
will turn the trick.
Over the years, Canadian
contestants have established an
enviable record in the World
Plowing Championship. In the
eleven previous contests the
Canadian teams have racked
up a record of two firsts, two
seconds, three thirsts and three
fourths.
Stan Willis, a vegetable
grower earned his place on the
team by winning the Canadian

Key Role
Canadians played a key rale
in organizing the World Plow-
ing Organization which spon-
sors the Championship contest,
and Canada was honoured in
being host to both the first
contest at Cobourg, Ontario in
1953, and the eleventh contest
at Caledon, Ontario, last Oct-
ober. The site of each World
Contest is marked by a Cairn
of Peace dedicated to broader
understanding between all peo-
ples and the cause of Peace.
The twelfth World Contest
will be held on a state experi-
mental farm not far from Vien-
na, in Austria's rich grain grow-
ing area. There will be a total
21 nations. In addition to Can-
of 39 contestants representing
ada, the United States, and al-

Start Friday
Travelling by way of London,
the Canadian team arrived in
Vienna on Sunday, Sept. 20,
and were busy for the next
four days practising and ad-
justing their plows to suit the
local soil conditions. The World
Championship will be decided
on Sept. 25 and 26, with a plot
of sod plowed one day and
stubble the other. Following
the Contest, all participants
will take part in a tour of the
agricultural areas of Austria
before returning home.
